Summary
Led by Jess Tolvern aboard HMS Blackbeard, a battered allied fleet has kept Apex bottled up in the Persia System as Tolvern awaits desperately needed reinforcements. But when a brutal enemy push breaks a harvester ship free of Persia, and she discovers the extent of Apex war preparations, it becomes clear that only the combined might of Albion, Hroom, Scandian, and Singaporean forces have a chance of defeating the enemy once and for all.
The gathering allied fleet boasts more than 200 warships, the largest armada ever assembled. Arrayed against them is the most powerful and deadly threat humans and Hroom have ever faced. If the enemy cannot be defeated here and now, nothing will prevent the triumph of Apex and the extermination of all civilized people.
Sun King is the third and final book of the Void Queen Trilogy.

A monumental conclusion!
I just finished this book and it left me dazed. It was exciting and vast without being too overly-complicated. The characters are ones we know and love and the new characters are just as interesting and likable in their own ways. I loved this book the most out of the trilogy and found myself cheering (sometimes out loud) for our heroes. The only issue I had throughout the trilogy was sometimes mixing up the names of the Scandian marauder captains (more than likely my own fault). I loved seeing so much tie up by the end of this book, even things I didn't expect to matter so much; it was great.
I love the energy and passion brought by Steve Barnes. The characters feel real and the steady narration falls to the back to highlight the characters, giving these books a movie-like quality while listening. I'm sad to see there are books in the series that he doesn't narrate. I hope that changes and I don't lose the voices of these beloved characters.
So far, this has been my favorite series in a very long time and this book was one of the most enjoyable.

frustrating...
If you like all battle all the time, this is the book for you! I don't. The first half of the book was a seemingly never ending battle with multiple ships destroyed and the fight was clearly hopeless. Then...something happens to save the day. There's a short reprieve while everyone talks about the last or the upcoming battle and then the second half starts. The second half of the book was a seemingly never ending battle with multiple ships destroyed and the fight was clearly hopeless. Then...something happens to save the day. At the end you get another round of people talking about the battle and planning for the next big thing. Storylines are tied up and "the end." Wrap all of that in triumphant and pretentious music and you have book 3.
