Summary

Two clashing colleagues stuck together for Christmas — will opposites eventually attract?

Patrick has been single since he broke up with his cheating ex almost a year ago. With Christmas looming, he’s resigned to spending it alone with only memories of happier times for company. When a business trip with a coworker leaves them stranded in the Lake District due to heavy snow, it seems Patrick will have company for Christmas after all. It’s a shame his companion is Kyle, who’s undeniably attractive, but annoying as hell.

Aware of Patrick’s reluctant admiration, Kyle basks in the attention, even though Patrick isn’t the type of man he normally goes for. Averse to relationships after being hurt in the past, Kyle enjoys the occasional hookup, but has given up on seeking anything more meaningful.

Stuck together, their antagonism escalates along with a heavy dose of sexual tension until it finally ignites. What starts as a Christmas fling soon feels like something special, but will their tentative connection melt away as the snow thaws? If they’re going to take a chance on finding happiness together, they’ll have to put their differences aside and learn to trust one another.

Contains: enemies-to-lovers, snowball fights, bickering, spanking, a cute dog, a wise old lady, mistletoe, and a happy ending (of course).

A sweet enemies to lovers story

Jay Northcote has written a really sweet and romantic story. Kyle and Patrick are work colleagues who don't really get along. When they return from a work-related appointment just before Christmas, their car breaks down and it's in the middle of nowhere in the Lake District. Due to the massive snowfall, no one comes to their rescue that day and so they are forced to find a place to stay for the night. But they only find one room and are forced to spend even more time together.

I liked the easy-going way the author wrote this story. While I did have some problems with Kyle's behavior at first, that's what makes the story work. The two of them behave in a very realistic way. This story could have played out the same way in my neighborhood. Kyle and Patrick find out that they do have more in common than it seems at first glance.

A great and entertaining enemies to lovers story with protagonists who only gradually reveal their experiences from their past. But these experiences are the reason for their present behavior and are absolutely understandable.
But also the secondary protagonists are well done and it turns out that their landlady is only half as hard-hearted and dismissive as she pretends to be at first.

About the narrator: did I mention that I totally enjoyed Hamish Long's narration? I found him very entertaining and he breathed life into the characters with different voices. He also did a great job of bringing the emotional situations of the protagonists to the listener.
I enjoyed this audiobook very much and highly recommend it. An entertaining, romantic and fun story at Christmas time with lots of snow.

I requested a free review copy of this audiobook and this is my honest opinion.

A Sweet Stuck Together Romance

Stuck With You is a standalone contemporary romance that mixes Christmas magic with the snowed-in and trapped-together trope. I enjoyed this book so much. Patrick and Kyle are complete opposites - at the surface-but being stuck together in a small cabin shows them how much commonality they do share. The romance between the two men is sweet. I especially love their intimate moments which is basically the fluffiest kinky sex I've ever read. The audiobook was narrated by Hamish Long who does a terrific job. Hamish brings the characters to life and gives a wonderful performance. All in all, the story and audiobook were both done very well and were enjoyable and fun.

Immature, but nice and hot

The characters seemed a bit too immature for their age, and the relationship went from irritation to lust too fast with little buildup. I also didn't care for the spanking. Despite that, it was a nice and hot story.

Adorable with a side of heat

Enemies to lovers. Snowed in. Christmas. Spanking. And Jay Northcote. How can you possibly go wrong with any of that. This story could have been written for me. I love Jay Northcote's stories and this is no exception. His characters are real and not in the least perfect (in fact I could have slapped Kyle several times at the beginning of the book, he was such a brat). But those imperfections are what makes them finding their happy ever after so heartwarming and memorable.
I loved this book when I read it several years ago and enjoyed it just as much listening now. Hamish Long does a great job with two distinct and different characters, injecting the book with brattiness and conflict morphing to warmth and joy. And the epilogue is delightful.

A plausible and sweet holiday romance

Patrick and Kyle are colleagues who annoy the hell out of each other at work. Their boss is at his wits end listening to their childish bickering and has sent them on a business trip to the north of England just a few days before Christmas, telling both of them to put their differences aside and act professionally. Neither is looking forward to the enforced time together - but heh, what’s a few days? They can do this. It’s the last time they’ll actually have to work in close proximity as Patrick’s time as Kyle’s mentor is coming to an end after this trip.

But a few days turns into longer when Kyle’s car breaks down in the Lake District on their way home… the day before Christmas Eve and that’s when their real troubles begin. Or is it?

Stuck in the middle of nowhere, with heavy snow on its way and the AA unable to reach them until after Christmas, the two young men must make the best of a bad job. The fact that each has always been secretly attracted to the other, physically at least, makes their stay together in an unfinished, converted holiday cottage, in an off-the-beaten-track, village, with ONE bed, more enjoyable. More so after they accept their mutual attraction and decide that a holiday romance, albeit only physical, might be quite an enjoyable way to pass the time.

Jay Northcote has written a very sweet and enjoyable, enemies to lovers romance between two young men who really are more compatible than they thought. This Christmas story felt very real to me, a story that’s so plausible, I could actually see it happening. I loved his characterisation of, not only Patrick and Kyle, but the secondary characters, too. The elderly lady who rents them her unfinished holiday cottage (converted pigsty actually), reminiscent of ‘no room at the inn’, and the village shopkeeper who points them in the direction of that lady.

I appreciated how the author developed the boys‘ characters to a point where I began to feel invested in their lives and wanted them to find each other… and love. Each had their own reasons for behaving the way they did and it was lovely to see their defences breached, and especially lovely to see how they put their own differences aside to help the elderly Mrs Wilcox who was separated from her own family by the snow over the Christmas break.

Hamish Long has become a firm favourite of mine since his collaboration with Jay Northcote and is an extremely talented young performer. His voice is perfectly suited to this author’s, often youthful, characters, but his tone and range for all regional dialects is equally good; male, female, young, and elderly, his range across the board is really quite phenomenal. Plus, I didn’t have any trouble distinguishing who was speaking, even without the dialogue tags, and his interactions between the MC’s, both romantically, or when arguing (which they did a fair amount of) were entertaining and often moving.

A very enjoyable holiday romance, Jay Northcote, you managed to pack drama, tenderness, love, and some ahh moments into a relatively short word count. Recommended. And I shall definitely be watching out for more from this talented duo of author and narrator.

A Winter Wonderland

MM, Enemies to lovers, Romance. An easy story to listen to with low angst and lots of sweetness and heat with the added bonus of being based around Christmas. Thrown together unexpectedly forces them to open up about themselves and their feelings. A guaranteed HEA. Another enjoyable sweet romance from the author with great narration by Hamish Long.

I'm happy to be Stuck With You

This is Stuck With You by Jay Northcote.

Jay is one of the first authors in this Genre that i read. I have always loved their stories.

This is about 2 co-workers that don't really get on, finding themselves stuck together over Chtistmas.
Patrick is the sensible one, and Kyle the prankster.
The first thing that struck me about the narration was that Kyle reminded me so much (voice wise ) of Alfred the footman from Downton Abbey. All I could visualise after hearing that was this character from Downton Abbey (hehe).
The narrator Hamish Long did a fantastic job especially with Mrs Wilcox.
The story line was very entertaining.
I did at times keep tutting to myself and berating Kyle for being too snarky with Patrick and thinking "grow up" at times, but this just shows how engaging the characters were.

All in all I would definately recommend this book and audio version. Well done Jay and Hamish.

A brilliant Christmas story

This was my first listen to Hamish and I wasn't disappointed. He made the story smooth and easy to listen to with authentic British accents - which is not easy. The story itself is a typical Jay Northcote mix of sweet, sassy, funny and sexy believable characters brought to life by Hamish. An enemies to lovers trope with the main characters being stuck together in the great British countryside. The perfect listen for a cold winters day.

Hamish Long’s audio performances are so good!

I read this book when the ebook first came out back in November 2018 and I liked the story. As has happened for me before, listening to the audiobook made me love the story. Hamish Long is one of my favorite audiobook performers and he does such a fantastic job with Jay Northcote’s titles.

Stuck With You was a fun story to read. Patrick and Kyle are coworkers who grate on each other and don't get along. While they find each other attractive neither of them acts on that attraction until they are forced to spend the night together after their car breaks down and a snow storm delays their return home from a business meeting.

I enjoyed this forced proximity/enemies to lovers story. These two guys really, really, didn't get along a work – to the point that their boss called them in and told them they needed to quit their sniping at each other. Being forced to share a bed because of the storm, they give into their lust and then discover they both like a bit of spanking kink; the ensuing sex scenes were hot.

I think my favorite part of this story was how they interacted with the little old lady who gave them shelter after their car broke down and the shop keeper who told them that she had a place they might be able to rent. Patrick and Kyle worked together to help Mrs. Wilcox and she helped them to see that they cared for each other more than they realized.

The nice long epilogue at the end lets us know how Patrick and Kyle are doing 8 months later and I loved reading about how they were doing together.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
