I wish I’d read this earlier!

For all expecting and new mums - this book should come above any book on how to look after baby.
Its wonderful. It’s wise. It’s kind. It beautifully articulates all the feelings I didn’t know what to do with when I became a mother for the first time. Do yourself a major favour and read/listen to it! You won’t regret it!

I wish I found out about this sooner...

I am PP with my second daughter who is 8mo. I skipped over a lot of the pregnancy chapters & things I’ve felt I was past. I wish I had found out about this book when I was pregnant with my first. I think it would have helped me dramatically during the pregnancy and during the PP period. I applaud the author for making it her mission to take care of all the amazing mamas out there♥️

Loved this book as a first time mom!

This book was therapeutic for me to read as a first time mom. It helped me through my transition to motherhood and normalized all the feelings I was (and continue) to experience. I strongly recommend this book!

this is a must read for any mom, especially new ones

every single mom could benefit from at LEAST one chapter in this book. it will make you feel normal and encouraged, at the very least. i especially recommend this if you’re pregnant for the first time, or if you’re struggling in any way. this is the mom bible.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

We are trying to prepare for pregnancy and parenting BEFORE getting pregnant. I was specially worried about a lot of things, like social pressure on how to parenting, or breastfeeding, or childbirth. I was totally freaked out, and in this book I've found the help I needed to overcome those fears. It has practical tips and advice on how to approach the different stages of pregnancy and parenting, and without any judgement tells you is OKAY to worry about yourself and make YOU a priority.

The narrative is amazing, is enjoyable and cheerful, a pleasure to listen while driving or working. I loved the audio-bookbook so much I will definitely listen to it again, and probably buy it on hard-copy to have it on my nightstand as a basic.

Also, as a Millennial empowered woman who works but wants to be a mom, I found in this book comfort, and so much of the weight I had in my shoulders was lifted on the chapter about childcare and getting back to work. I cannot express enough gratitud for the author and all the research she has done. I RECOMMEND IT!

Not worth the time spent reading/listening

So it sounds like this book was written by someone who experienced detrimental PPD and wanted to try and “save” other women from the same fate. How does she do this? She suggests SO many things I disagree with. Basically it’s all about taking care of yourself first and don’t worry, your baby will survive. Plenty of babies have died from inattentive parents leaving baby in an unsafe place. It kept sounding like the book had promise,.. I kept waiting for the good piece of information that made this book every slightly worth it. Nope, it never comes. I’ve still got a couple hours left of this book and I think I just need to give up. I sooo wanted this book to be good. Guess you can’t like everyone!

A staple in my Doula tool bag!

Strong As A Mother is a truly sensible and compassionate guide to a pregnant and parenting person’s real needs. It speaks to every person in a way a good, supportive friend would. Kate Rope’s warm, confident, supportive narration provides the perfect companion for those times when you need a friend to just tell you you’re doing great, provide resources, and anecdotal insight. But you don’t have to put on a pot of coffee or ask them to leave so you can get rest! No
In my professional work as a Doula, I recommend this book to all my clients. But it’s also a great reminder and resource to enhance my own support of families. Strong Like A Mother has become a true staple in my Doula tool bag!

boring and hard to listen to

the format doesn't make for good listening, this would probably be better to actually read. I couldn't handle it and only made it through the first three sections.
