About this listen

Needing to leave Sterling Orphan House at 18, Rose Sterling is to take toddler, Katie Hudson, to her father who works on the King Ranch in New Mexico Territory. She thought her biggest adventure would be getting there on the wagon train, but she was wrong.

Will Hudson can’t believe he has a daughter. His wife had left him for a gambler, and he’d been trying to cope ever since. He doesn’t make the best impression on Rose Hudson at first, but he sees how much his little daughter loves and depends on her. Can he adjust to fatherhood, or will he always be a disappointment to the women in his life?

Letty Sawyer is terrified of Indians since they killed her adoptive parents. When she ends up on the King Ranch, can Gray Fox show her that all Indians aren’t alike, and he would protect her with his life?

Rose & Will

I love coming back to Janice Cole Hopkins stories. They are a breath of fresh air. This features Rose as she is told she must now leave the orphanage. At 18, the orphanage can no longer afford to house her, so she is put on a wagon train with Katie, a baby, to go across country and deliver the child to her father. Will is shocked to find out about his daughter. His cheating wife left him, never saying she was pregnant, and now with her death, the child has come to live with him. His state of mind is a mess though, unable to get over the deceit of the affair and the love for his wife. Could he possibly take care of a toddler? Rose stays on to help, but their is an attraction between the two. Is he willing to take the plunge again and risk his heart? Rose does have other options too, so things heat up a bit! How does it end? I can't tell! I will say that faith and love go hand in hand in this story. We do get to see Preston and Abby again too, giving that feeling of coming home. I loved this listen!

In duet, Jennifer Groberg and Douglas Birk bring this historical western romance alive. Groberg plays Rose and Abby perfectly, giving each their own voices. She finds the best voices for her characters and I loved her voice for Katie!!! You would think a child was talking! Birk comes through as all the men. From the hesitant Will to the Comanche Gray, he delves into each with a sound that matches their personalities. This is a fabulous narration.

Christian Historical Romance

Christian Historical Romance

This story was even better than book one! The Christian messages were powerful! The stories varied and intriguing. And two romances instead of only one! There were several phrases spoken in Spanish that I wish were translated to English though.
The narrators were the same. I did enjoy have the two narrators! But my opinions were the same as book one, except there was stilting for Grey because English was his second language, but there shouldn't have been stilting for Letty's character except possibly her first meetings with Grey, because of her fear and unease.
Again, 5 stars for the story and 4 for the narration.
