About this listen
I was tired of working the police beat in Northern Cali. Exhausted - my whole body was yearning for a place I hadn't been in years, my old home. When my mama died, I knew I had to come back, and a pay bump and new job as police chief sealed the deal.
I got away from heartbreak. From being so tired. From the constant, never-ending world of crime I'd come to know.
In Abingdon, I can relax, see all my old friends from Jackson Academy. Maybe I can even change this place a little, make it better for all the kids like me. The ones who were different, who always needed a place a little bigger and broader than a small mountain town could provide.
I always promised myself I wouldn't come back. But Kendall Vincent - he might just get me to stay for good. When I'm in his arms, I feel complete, whole again, like a man reborn to the world.
Everything seems perfect, right up until the moment that it's not. When two gay kids get hurt bad by a gang of thugs, I realize that Abingdon needs me far more than I thought. And I'm here to protect the town - and the man - that I'm growing to love.
Contains mature themes.

Excellent story
This book was an absolute joy, the characters were great and facing such hatred, it was shocking in parts and makes me grateful nobody gets beat up for sexual preferences anymore (well, they don’t here). Superb narration. Beautiful HEA.

Fantastic story
The love story is so sweet, love both MMCs. The side story is just heart breaking but all comes good in the end. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend.
The narrators are both great but the chop and change between the 2 can be a little difficult as they have very different styles… BUT this isn’t enough to put off listening to this excellent story.
Now to start book 2!!

Nice gentle romance
There’s a little angst but not too much. A gentle well narrated tale of a cop and a chef. HEA guaranteed.

good story and now overly drawn out
I enjoyed these characters and how honest they were. the story was good and kept me engaged. it was a good listen. one of the narrators sounded out of breath a lot. I'm not sure if that was by choice or just his style but it was irritating at times

Slow and no chemistry
Just ok. No sparkes and nothing special. One of the narrators gasps for air so it is really hard to keep listening.
