About this listen

This exclusive box set collection contains the first three books in the best-selling gay romance series, Spruce Texas!

Football Sundae: It's not every day your football-star crush asks to taste your big sundae special. All I want to do is go to culinary school, become a dessert chef, and let go of this small, dusty town-if only it would let go of me.

Born Again Sinner: Cody Davis is gonna make a sinner out of me.

Yes, I know exactly who he is: the wounded soldier at the end of Willow Street. Intimidating. Devastatingly handsome. Muscular body chiseled from stone. Deep dark eyes that dare you to come near. Attitude for days. And I just became his caregiver.

Heteroflexible: Jimmy Strong is one devastating son of a gun. He's gorgeous, stubborn, a dancer, fiercely protective of his loved ones (to a fault), and intense.

He can steal your heart with his infectious laughter...and break it with a single glance of his stunning, rich brown eyes. I ought to know. He breaks mine every day.

Contains mature themes.

A must listen!

I got the first three books for one credit and expected them to not be very good. However, I can't explain how much I've enjoyed them. The characters are so well written and the town of Spruce has a real feel to it. There isn't a badly written character in the bunch and I like how the characters sometimes pop up in each others stories giving a sense of what they're up to now.
All three books are narrated brilliantly! The characters are bought to life and the southern accents are silky smooth and really set a sexy texas tone. As an Englishman I really loved the drawl and twang they bought to the narration. It gives such a warmth to the characters.
I will be continuing with the serries and I'm looking forward to finding out what's next for the locals in the little town of Spruce.
I would recommend the books and will re-listen to them again at some point down the line.

Brilliant series

This was a brilliant series of books (1-3 in a package). I hadn't read anything by Daryl Banner before but will be looking for more now. I enjoyed books 1&2 but Hetroflexible was amazing and one of my favourite M/M romances so far. Some points were very relatable but I loved how the relationship developed between Jimmy and Bobby. I can't wait to start the next book.

Whilst browsing for my next read I came across the Spruce Texas box set 1-3...
Took a chance never having read anything by Daryl Banner. So glad I did. VERY good stories and characters. Listened through book one and immediately purchased the rest of the series

I did enjoy all 3 stories, but some characters did irk me a little bit throughout each book.

Actual reviews
Book 1 - Football Sundae 4.5/5 ⭐️ 🌶️3/5
Book 2 - Born again sinner 3.5/5⭐️ 🌶️3/5
Book 3 - Heteroflexible 4/5 ⭐️ 🌶️3/5

Book 1: Billy’s so sassy, confident and doesn’t take any shit. love that about him! Tanner was sweet in general and the way he stuck up for Billy a few times and checked his mates when they went too far, I really liked that about him. I love how family oriented they are ☺️ But the Strongs mum is so annoying! Really disliked her character.
Dont get me wrong she is a great ally but she says things for the wrong reasons to get noticed/ one up on other instead of meaning what she says 🙄

Some books have parents I hate because they’re so toxic and abusive then theres Nadine who is just so OTT 🤣🙈

I feel like Tanner was pretty persistent at the start of this story and then they went from 0-100 in a single chapter.

I guess I was hoping for more of a slow burn/ sexual tension building more between the two but it all happened pretty fast. Glad they got such a lovely HEA though ☺️

The Narrator for Billy, Trey and Jimmy was really difficult to listen too for me personally.
The constant loud, breathy intakes in between every single word, sentence etc. became pretty annoying VERY quickly. But that might just be me as my adhd brain zoned in on the breathing rather than the story itself 🤣🙈 Of course he can’t help breathing!!! I know that! It would just be great if the breath intakes weren’t as loud and noticeable as they are in the mic.

The narrator for the other MMC’s was great though

Book 2: I don’t really have much to say about the storyline itself as it didn’t seem to have much happening.

But I do absolutely adore Trey, he deserves the world and then some but his father annoyed the crap out of me the entire way through apart from after a certain event that happened then he was only tolerable.

Then you’ve got Cody, who at first it was a great grumpy/ sunshine vibe and I was loving the hostility towards Trey but secretly enjoying his company. But then when things escalated, I feel like he never let Trey SPEAK! Like jeez, just let him finish a damn sentence. It just came across as really rude and disrespectful after a few times.
Especially when he went to tell Cody about the meaning of the tie in the church and I can’t remember what exactly he said but he just kind of spoke over him and made him go up to listen to his dad.

After being repressed by his dad all his life, he did not need that kind of treatment from his partner also 😑

Book 3: Again there’s definitely a theme with this series of one MMC talking over, answering for and not letting their partner say what they mean before jumping to conclusions. It got old quickly.

Everytime Bobby tried to explain his reasoning and turmoil for literally being in love with his best friend most of his life, Jimmy kept speaking over the top or making it all about him instead of just listening 🤦🏼‍♀️ Really don’t like that trait in people.

As someone with adhd, I get the whole talking over someone because you get excited about mutual subjects or will forget what you’re going to say (but i acknowledge it and try to do better).
In this context, Jimmy just goes from 0-100 with what he thinks Bobby is talking about and when he kept doing things Bobs asked him not to do, I was like are you serious?

For example, practically forcing Bobby to show him the film room after he said they shouldn’t and he could basically get fired….. but he wouldn’t let up.

Then when Bobby asked Jimmy to calm
Down and don’t start something because he might lose his job, what does he do? Oh yeah, gets him fired 🙈 admittedly he does apologise and try’s to numerous times but he knows how much that job was needed.

Anyway, I did love their relationship/ friendship and banter between the two. The spicy scenes were also pretty hot but definitely not a series I’ll be re-listening too any time soon sadly

so happy it was free

What did I just hear... The narration is one of the worst I've heard. It was so bad I had to speed it to x1.30 just to hear them talk normal instead of their cringe forced "seductive" slow voice.
Taner is a good character. He's likable, hot, and funny, but Billy is THE worst.
He's whiney, judges everyone, freaks out about everything, is selfish, and so so soooooo annoying. Taner does everything for him, but he second Taner isn't on top of him he spirals into the most annoying pity party, and after a few meetings he has thoughts of "...he wants to keep me a secret!! Maybe that's why we haven't use the L word or call each other boyfriend"... Love??? seriously?? how empty is his love that after 5 meetings top he's already clingy and wanting Taner to say I love you.
And the second he tells him he's crazy about him, Billy still fkn complains and whines that he's not ready....uuugghhh.... THE worst.

The dialogue is a joke, with their "You already tasted my cream! Hahahaha I love it how we can make each other laugh"
Their sex scenes are so cringe and weird that I couldn't pass beyond chapter 12 of the first book.
