About this listen
Yes. I'm the daughter of the infamous couple, June Heal and Oscar Park.
One teeny weeny problem, I'm a mortal. Yep. I guess I got my granny Darla's DNA.
Good news! I might not have spiritual powers but I have a mean set of baking skills. I'm delighted to be moving out of Whispering Falls, where y'all know I can't live since I'm mortal, and to Celestial Falls, another small Southern town where I'm opening Heavenly Desserts. Of course, The Marys wouldn't let me leave unless I took my new kitten with me.
I'm beyond excited, but fluff left my dough when Orin Reguila showed up. But that's not all that put too much flour in my cookies, there just so happened to be a murder . . . when someone ate my cookie.
I've got no one to turn to! It looks like I'm going to have to enlist Orin's help with his wizard skills.
I just hope I can clear my name and save my business before The Marys make me pack up and go back to Whispering Falls.

Baking with magic and murder
I enjoyed this book. As this is a spin off from another series by this author, so you might recognise some of the characters but don't sorry if you haven't read or listened to the other series because it does work as a standalone. It starts in the magic community with what feels like a trail and I must admit I did get a bit confused with so many characters being introduced and not really understand what was going on but Lo Heal-Park soon gets her way and it becomes easier to follow and understand. She suddenly comes into powers and the mystery becomes unusual with the skill of just being able to talk to the suspect and knowing or seeing what they are thinking. Very handy when solving a murder, I had guessed who the killer was a few minutes before the killer revealed themselves. That doesn't mean the story was boring and ended quickly because Lo has to prove herself so she can stay and there's lots of drama and the possibility of romance. I did think the game down of the killer was a bit quick and sudden but otherwise it held my attention and I enjoyed it. I liked the characters, especially the love struck kitten Skylar Blue. It's a series that I might have to look out for again.
Lo wants to leave the shelter of her family and go out and prove herself in the world. The problem is Lo is the child of a long line of powerful witches and is the only one not to have any powers of her own, which is why she wants to make it in the human world as a baker. Things don't go to plan when the shop she has brought is claimed by a local. Then the local is found dead, but over the head with a rolling pin and Lo is the prime suspect. Everybody wants to whisk her back home expect her cat familiar skylar Blue and a wizard who for his own reason wants to stay out of Whispering Falls. The three of them have a week to prove they can make it in the human world. A week to get the bakery up and running and to find a killer. As if things weren't already complicated but Lo turns out to be a late bloomer and her new magic might just give her the edge she needs.
I have heard this narrator a number of times, with her southern accent she is easy to recognise unfortunately this all meant I kept picturing the other characters and it took me a while to associate with the characters in this book.
