Summary

Max Seager was the best there was. His skills sharpened in the midst of a brutal African civil war, he was at once a policeman, soldier and detective - a tracker of men. He thought he’d left that life behind him, but then he learns that his particular expertise is required again.

Two teenage girls have been abducted and are being held to ransom, hidden deep within the Zimbabwean bush that was once his hunting ground. The mother of one of the girls begs him to help and, unable to walk away, Max returns to Africa with a handpicked team of former comrades-in-arms.

But it soon becomes clear that nothing is quite what it seems and that if he is able to find the girls, it might only open the door to something far more sinister....

a wonderful thriller

I loved this book, it's a little slow to get started but stick with it and you'll be hooked as the plot unfolds.

Superb

Really enjoyed this book.
I've listened to several of his other titles and also enjoyed them.
A great story teller with a good mix of action and detail.

A good story, with a touch of predictably

All elements of a good book present, suspense, characters good and bad, romantic touches, detail, accuracy of detail, twist in the tail etc. plus a tiny piece of mind blowing violence which gave me bad dreams.

Solid action adventure

Came across this one by random browsing so didn't have any pre-conceptions, which helps with a somewhat generic thriller. This will be a short review as the synopsis covers it well, even with how brief it is, and the comparison to other authors/works are also super accurate.

Good pace, somewhat on the short side, so when we get to the 'mystery' element alluded to in the synopsis (which you will get the general gist for real early) there is little time left.
Will give a shout out to the narrator given there is a mixed bag on this area in the reviews. I thought Telfer did a great job of the accents and makes this a very easy and engaging listen. Granted, I am not a native of the regions our heroes are from so perhaps am not getting that same 'cringe' vibe that others mentioned.

Bottom line, it won't be the one of the best listens you have and it is a bit by the numbers, but for the old classic 'men on a mission' it fits the bill.

Let down a little by the second part

The first part of the story was classic Mike Lunnon-Wood, but I found the second part to be more skein to a gory East end gangster thriller. Performance as always exceptional.

Disappointing

Whoever compared this to Wilbur Smith's work can't have read much of his work.
Can't say that I will be in a hurry to read more of Lunnon Wood's books.
