About this listen

Fifteen years ago, Sam Becker's sister was killed, a tragedy that haunts him to this day - particularly as his best friend, Marcus, was jailed for her murder.

Driving home from the bittersweet celebration of what would have been her thirtieth birthday, Sam is confronted with a terrifying scene, and has just moments to try to save four lives. In the aftermath of this chilling drama, he is hailed as a hero by the press - but to the investigating police, things do not add up. Sam finds himself drawn into a conspiracy of lies and organised crime that puts his own life in danger.

And to make matters worse, Marcus is out of prison, hoping for reconciliation and determined to clear his name. Sam is forced to confront his own dark past, but as the layers of deceit are peeled back, can he really trust anyone around him?

Brilliant!

I loved this, a very gripping story from start to finish! Hope there's more stories to come involving the main characters of this book.

A great page turner and audiobook

I liked the developing plot and characters. You were gripped from the beginning to the end. It left you wanting to buy another of Paul's books which I will.

Hmmm.

Reminds me of the comments that I was often given at school about my essays...good have been better!

Started off great.....then I became lost (not in a good way)....then I managed to figure out what was happening. ...then I became bored....then it picked up....then I couldn't wait to finish it. I had invested too many hour listening to this to not finish it but oh boy was I glad when it ended.

The story was dragged out way too long, it's probably the only unabridged version where I'd wished I'd bought the abridged instead. This book is probably best for actual reading yourself rather than listened too.

The narrator...he has a great storytelling voice but his characterisation injection of voices was appalling. All females are given a whining nasal voice and the male characters sound 'thick' (as in stupid). Quite often the wrong voice was given to a persona so it all became very confusing. Granted it us be so difficult to remember each personas voice but if you cannot mange to remember them just don't do the 'voices' and narrate to us in your natural voice instead. It's a shame the narrator didn't keep to using his own own because it's fabulous with lots of depth and tone during his reading. Sadly I will avoid any audio books by this narrator because of that reason.

Overall I'm disappointed in both story and performance. It's akin to those three part mini series on TV that could have been done and dusted in two evenings. The ending was silly and very abrupt and left me thinking 'what the....'!

Painful to listen to

I don't know if it was the voice of the person reading but everyone character I this book seems to have a chilling whispering voice that grated on me. The storyline should be gripping but somehow I found it just frustrating.

I can't recommend this book. I'm glad I only paid £2.99 for it.

Don't bother

What would have made Someone to Save You better?

A complete ending - one where all the ends are tied up, not a total anticlimax
Totally unbalanced storytelling - ultimately the baddie ahd zero character development and nothing actually happened at the end, no explanation for the entire reason for the crime.

Has Someone to Save You put you off other books in this genre?

Yes

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Comical accents, it sounded like the League of Gentleman!

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No - utter waste of time

Any additional comments?

Writer had some kind of ridiculous sycophantic love for surgeons, or pediatricians.
Being a medic myself I found this nauseating.

Seriously?

A long listen for little reward. Also I don't know if it was me but the narrator seemed to swap between calling the main protagonist Sam and Tam. Don't bother with this.
