Summary
'I had a big cry—then I kept going'
Growing up in the Canadian Rockies, the mountains have always been home for Jenny Tough. Travelling the world, she's always discovered commonalities with mountains—and mountain people. Her major project is to run solo and unsupported across a mountain range on every continent where indigenous mountain people live isolated from the outside, urban world. Running solo and unsupported comes with obvious logistical as well as physical challenges, but running is also a common language—all people around the world do it—and it has always helped build connections across barriers of language and nationality.
Solo is the account of one woman's mission to run solo and unsupported across mountain ranges on six continents—overcoming obstacles, conquering fears and finding the joy in achieving her goals absolutely alone.

Great book! and great reader!
This book is very inspiring! Moreover, it's never boring because of the writer and reader (so unusual to have both an excellent writer and reader!). Thanks Jenny for sharing your story with all of us.

A slightly rushed but very engaging book
Having followed Jenny's adventures on social media for a while it was fascinating to be able to delve deeper into her experiences.
Although at times Jenny's narration feels a little rushed it did not detract from the story.
Her writing really puts you in the thick of the action and you soon end up wishing her along in her scrapes and escapades.

An inspirational individual
The adventures leading to the learnings and personal journey will inspire everyone no matter how old or which gender.
I encourage you to listen to this and share it with others to show what a human being is capable of. Especially to shrug off the male dominated conventions of solo adventure.
Amazing book Jenny!

Honest, authentic and inspiring.
This frank and revealing autobiographical account describes in unusually self effacing honesty of someone completing an incredibly daunting set of runs. By Jenny’s use of real life examples the listener realises quite how many unexpected challenges had to be overcome. I commend this book to all men going on adventures so they can appreciate quite how privileged we are and the additional problems faced by women.

Inspirational adventure
Jenny Tough (yes that is her real name and very appropriate it is!) eloquently tells us the story of 6 solo running trips across mountain ranges on six continents.
I addition to running about 1000km in 20 days, each trip comes with additional challenges, not least the sadly predictable misogyny facing a lone woman traveller.
The story is up beat and inspiring and will make you want to have your own adventures. It is narrated by the author and she has a great speaking voice.
This is well worth listening to for anyone who is interested in travel, adventure or simply wants the inspiration to go find their own adventure.

Could be better.
In general the book sounds overy monotone from start to finish. It some how doesnt feel emotional. Im not sure if thats down to the writer or the narrator. Jenny has some great stories and Kudos for her exploration but it just didnt get portrayed very well.
I understand that she feels patronised by my men, but im pretty sure if male tourist showed up and explained to a local that they were going to do some of the amazing thigs jenny did they would say the same thing. If you are travelling in North Africa it funementally has a massive cultural difference to Canada or Scotland that makes it more dangerous for woman. Thats a fact. It feels more like Jenny has issue with authority. hearing her go on and on about it is a bit annoying.
I think the book could have done better explaining her adventures.

Really draws me in to the adventure
Thoroughly immersive storytelling as Jenny shared her story with us. All good but maybe would enjoy hearing more about the recovery processes which seem like an important part of the actual adventure. Super writing, I enjoyed the journey from my less mountainous position.
