About this listen

Set in the midst of WW2, Soldier Girl follows a woman on her journey of courage, determination, loss, and resilience – the sequel to A Hopscotch Summer from Annie Murray.

Read by Penelope Freeman (Her Wartime Secret)

Molly Fox has grown up in the back streets of Birmingham at the mercy of her cruel grandfather and her drunken mother. Haunted by terrible family secrets, she decides to take her life into her own hands and bravely joins the British Army as an ATS girl.

The army, seemingly a disaster at first, surprisingly provides Molly with the direction and affirmation she has yearned for.

But war brings tragedy as well as triumph, and when Molly receives news from home, it becomes clear that she can't escape her unforgiving past so easily . . .

Escape into a heartrending saga of war, friendship and heartbreak in Soldier Girl.

The series continues with the final book, All the Days of Our Lives.

A great sequel to A Hopscotch Summer, this book had me hooked from the beginning. Its the story of a personal struggle to find identity overcoming many obstacles and ultimately not ending as one would expect from this type of book. Recommended.

Brilliant - NOT a typical romance book - Recommend

Having enjoyed the first book in the series. I decided to purchase the sequel. It definitely didn't disappoint. Beautifully written and perfectly narrated. Don't feel you need to read the first book to enjoy this one though. It's wonderful in its own right.
Following the two childhood friends as War rages in the 40s. Both entertaining and gripping. Hard pressed to put down.
Can't wait to start the next in the series.

excellent sequel

Listened to it as a follow on from Hopscotch summer . Sad at times following the life of Molly but also uplifting. Can't wait to start the third book in the series to see what happens to Molly & if she finds love and happiness! Well worth the listen. Found the Birmingham accent iterating used for some if the characters irritating at times but I got used to it.

Loved Soldier Girl!
