Summary

Warning, the following tale is preposterous, but similar events may well be occurring as we speak.

Soccer's Sensational Scam, a comedy adventure where technology, soccer, and betting collide. This audiobook can be enjoyed even by those who reach for the remote at the first utterance of the "F" word or "S" word, or any other sign of soccer action whatsoever.

Imagine a world where football is more important than going to church.

Imagine eleven unlikely lads being transformed from amateur league journeymen to world-beaters in ten months.

Imagine when technology allows things to go a bit too far.

This is the story of Fordley Town FC.

Manager, family man, local hero, Ron Dibble's reputation is soaring as his beloved football team transform from a rabble of third-rate amateurs to world beaters in a matter of months. Wife Maurine and daughter Rosie are at loggerheads as Rosie wraps her dad around her little finger whilst deviating from Maurine's perfect plan for her beloved offspring.

A dark character lurks in the background spinning a web of intrigue and deceit as he masterminds a monumental fraud utilizing AI and nano technologies. Everyone he meets is deceived and manipulated into performing unimaginable deeds.

Peter Lenton is a dreamer, big on ideas, low on success. He needs a significant win to regain the trust of his long suffering, estranged wife. What does Peter do when the biggest opportunity of his life presents itself at his door?

What happens when the team get really good and agents start knocking?

It's an outlandish tale that one day soon may not be too far from the truth.

You'll go on a journey with the team; shades of Jolly boys outing and Jack Reacher are in the mix.

This book is pure escapism, an antidote to daily life.

Welcome to the fantastic world of Fordley Town FC, a joyous place but where malevolent forces lurk in the undergrowth, and greed trumps all.

Listen to experience a world of joy and danger in equal measures.

Great Fun!

An easy listen on my daily commute. Funny, quirky and clever. The story is far fetched but made believable by superb narration bringing the characters to life and putting a smile on my face. Recommended!

Far more than a football story…

Wow…what a spiders web this tale spins…so many intriguing characters brilliantly brought to life by the fantastic narration. You don’t have to be a football fan to enjoy this…but it might help. You will never look at your team in the same light again! We await the sequel.

A Fraudulent Football Future

This is a lighthearted, though lengthy, tale in which futuristic technology, league football and fraud all clash together! The cast list is long: the listener needs to become familiar with names, nicknames, and aliases early on in the story. There are many amusing twists and turns, some involving the families and lives of the various protagonists. The narrator is excellent, managing (convincingly) a different voice for each of the characters. He also conveys a gripping sense of drama while reporting on tense matches, even for a listener who normally has little interest in such things! It is made clear, at the outset, that things are going to go 'pear shaped'; the question then is whether the innocent victim will be convicted of a crime, in which his role is that of blissfully unaware spectator, or not!

Lighthearted and fun listen

As a massive football fan I felt I was probably predisposed to likely enjoying listening to this however I would highly recommend to anyone (not just football fans) looking for a funny, lighthearted story with some entertaining banter.
