About this listen
1862. A goods train is speeding through the Sapperton Tunnel when it hits a makeshift pen of sheep inexplicably set up near the exit. The animals are slaughtered by the impact whilst the train hits a pile of rocks and is derailed, seriously injuring the occupants. Inspector Colbeck discovers that the shepherd and his dog are missing. Stephen Rydall who owned the sheep is shocked by the occurrence, which further affects him as he is a major shareholder in the Great Western Railway. Does someone have an axe to grind against Rydall? Or is it the missing shepherd who had made some dangerous enemies? With family grievances, embarrassing secrets and village feuds, it is not going to be an easy case for the railway detective.

Very good listen
This book was based in my village, great to get a book about somewhere so close that you recognise all the places, it really brings it home and makes it more exciting!

Very poor editing.
This recording needs to be edited probably. There are repeated words & sentences, strange changes in the volume/ sound from muffled and quiet to loud and echoing. I found it very irritating and distracting.

Struggled to finish
I enjoyed all the other audio books in this series but this one was a big let down. Very slow and not a very good story. Struggled to finish it.

Puerile Drivel
The level of ridiculousness of this book is only made nine times worse by the condescending , sanctimonious tone of this narrator , who , makes all the characters sound like bumbling halfwits . It’s an insult to the intelligence . I will never purchase any other book on audible narrated by this narrator .

Good Story But Not So Narrator
I've got most of the Marston Railway Detective books. But have shyed away from the ones narrated by Gordon Giffin. Never liked his narration, but thought I'd give him one more go. A mistake. He narrates each character with the same voice and he seems to make it hard work. But the story is good, but I won't bother with this narrator any more
