In my defense, I thought the plane was going to crash.
Otherwise, I never would have blurted out those embarrassing things to a perfect stranger.
Did I mention he turned out to be a scorching hot superstar of professional hockey?
But wait, there’s more.
When the plane lands safely, I rush off, praying I’ll never have to face him again. My luck holds out for less than twenty-four hours, when I realize he’s a groomsman at the wedding I’m attending.
We end up having a drink and a good laugh about my panicked confessions, and when he invites me up to his room for some no-strings-attached fun, I say yes. After all, a headboard rattling one-night stand with a guy who knows how to put the puck in deep isn’t something a bookworm like me ever thought she’d experience.

Now what’s crashing are all the plans Joe Lupo and I had for our lives–separately.
After all, we’re totally wrong for each other. He’s commitment-phobic and completely focused on his career. And I want to plant roots in my small town–with someone who chooses me.

Absolutely adored

Gahh I loved this!! From the beginning to the end!
I love how they meet and then absolutely adored the slow build of their relationship. It was messy and hard navigating distance and differences, but I loved every second of the way they figured it out!
Joe is so freaking perfect with how he just shows Mabel how he cares for her. It had me swooning hard. And then Mabel I loved the way she handled it all. They had such amazing chemistry!
It was all just a wonderful read and perfect conclusion to the series! The mash of the families from other books too! I seriously couldn’t put it down! The narrators were so great as well!!!
If you love this series, accidentally pregnancy, sports romance, and more then this one will be for you. Also I think this one would totally be ok as a standalone, although more enjoyable in order imo!

Loved the book loved the audible more
I read the book and had to download the audible to go with my Cherry Tree Harbour collection and it did not disappoint- absolutely loved it and the narrators were amazing

My favourite of the series!
I was so excited to finally get Mabel's book after all her brothers. I'm so glad she spoke to Melanie so we could get this story! It gave me all the warm, ooey gooey feelings. I loved how this book started and I loved where it took us. Joe was unbelievable. I didn't know what to expect, but he completely stole my heart and I think this book was my favourite in the series. Although, Joe may have felt like he wasn't ready for an actual commitment the way he shows up for Mabel is heartwarming and he has easily become one of my favouite Melanie men. These Lupo men are amazing men! I not only read the book but also listened to the aduiobook and let me tell you this aduiobook is amazing! Connor Crais and Kirsten Leigh were incredible as Joe and Mabel. I adored this story and I can't wait for what's next!

Highly Recommend!
Love love loved this story! The Cherry Tree Harbor series has had me as a fan since book 1 and I was constantly wondering when Mabel would get her HEA, so I was so excited when I heard that she would be in a hockey romance!
Can I just say I instantly had a grin on my face when I started this book? I absolutely feel not being a fan of flying (especially turbulence) so I can see why Mabel reacted the way she did. Who would have thought going through a storm on a plane would start such a great love story!
I really enjoyed Mabel and having to navigate their own personal feelings in order to make their happy family. Being able to see the family members give their input as well, which helped these two to find their HEA was perfect.
I was able to read both the ebook and listen to the audiobook and the fully immersed reading style is so enjoyable. The audiobook was narrated by Connor Crais and Kirsten Leigh and I don't have a single complaint to lodge against the audiobook. These two narrators voiced Mabel and Joe so well that I lost myself in the story. I finished the audiobook in the span of two days, and I already want to re-read!

A top listen for 2024!

Melanie Harlow?? What are you doing to me? At this point, I don’t even need to read the blurb to any of these amazing authors' books to know that I will love it, because I know without a doubt that I will love the book. She honestly cannot write a bad book. Her books are addictive, you read one…. You need to read them all! It goes without saying that once you pick up a Melanie Harlow book you know you are about to be taken on an entertaining, emotional and unique roller coaster ride that you won’t want to get off!

Slap Shot Surprise is the fifth and final book in the Cherry Tree Harbor Series and what an epic conclusion it is. This book has become my favourite of the series and it’s sitting up high side by side with Ignite, which is one of my top ten books of all time!
This romance starts as a mile-high meet-cute. I love a good meet-cute and this was perfect! It ticked all the right boxes.
Now it’s time to meet Joe, a sexy professional hockey player who will have you weak at the knees the moment you meet him. He’s so damn swoon-worthy and so easy to fall in love with….AND. AND HE CAN COOK! Need I say more?
And then we meet the lovely quirky Mabel. She is so kindhearted and beautiful inside and out. She’s also a very awkward person which is evident when she becomes noticeably nervous and anxious about flying.
The journey between Joe and Mabel starts as a one-night stand. However, what was supposed to be a one-night stand has turned into so much more when Mabel falls pregnant and now they have a permanent spot in each other’s life.
As the story progresses, you get to see the way the two navigate their way through the pregnancy and the blossoming friendship. However, the more time they spend together, the closer they become and the stronger their connection gets and it’s not long until they are both trying to fight off feelings they were catching for each other. Mabel was falling hard and Joe found himself wanting things he never thought possible.
Are Joe and Mabel ready to be parents? Are they willing to admit how they feel about each other or will they continue to deny and fight what’s meant to be?
It's so bittersweet. I don't want this series to end.
I've fallen in love with the entire Cherry Tree Harbor and their crazy ways! Melanie never ceases to amaze me and constantly delivers amazing, beautiful, heartfelt romance stories that have a place in my heart and remain there forever.
This book was AMAZING! As always, Melanie raised the bar with this book. This is by far one of my top reads of 2024! It was extremely well written. It had the perfect mixture of heart, heat and humour. You honestly cannot go wrong when it comes to anything written by this author. Do yourself a favour and read this book, you will not be disappointed!!

I loved it so much!
I am convinced Melanie Harlow cannot write a bad book! Slap Shot Surprise was *chef's kiss*! This book was addicting, fun, hilarious, and a wild ride.
I loved Joe and Mabel so much! Their meet cute was so cute and the chemistry between the two was electric! I loved the way the development of their relationship was written. The progression from one night stand to parents to be to friends and eventually lovers was done so well.
The audiobook is narrated by Connor Crais and Kirsten Leigh and believe me when I tell you that this cast was perfection at narrating these characters and bringing their personalities to life!
