About this listen
In this groundbreaking work, Dr. Phil challenges you to find your "authentic self": that person you have always wanted to be, but were too distracted, busy, or scared to become. Instead, you have created a "fictional self", taking on the identity of who you believe you are supposed be. The incongruence between these two selves is what leads you to feel that your life is incomplete, unbalanced, and more difficult than it should be.
In Self Matters, Dr. Phil helps you to demystify your self-concept and learn how to reclaim your authentic self. You can learn to think beyond the excuses and fears that have masked the person you want to be. By facing the cards life has dealt you, you can relearn how to best react to them.
Self Matters is one of the most forward-thinking works on self-concept and self-esteem ever published. We get only one chance in this world. Dr. Phil tells us all how to make the most of it.

ANOTHER WINNER
I know that Dr Phil arrived on the scene and became an overnight sensation and I know that his TV show isn't as good as it could be but don't let that fool you. This man has an absolutely uncanny ability to peel away the nonsense and point you RIGHT AT the facts. This book is phenomenal on so many different levels they don't give me enough space to explain how good it is. Take it from somebody who has read pretty much everything from Tony Robbins and Marianne Williamson to Achaan Chah and Daniel Goleman... this guy knows what he's talking about and he actually cares whether you understand him or not. Do yourself a massive favour.... buy ALL his books and play them in the background when you're at home or in the car without TRYING to "get it." For me it took a full year of owning this audio book and listening to snippets before I actually "got him." Sometimes WE are not ready to move forward... it isn't him.... it's us. When you actually keep playing bits in the background... your subconcious soaks it up and leads you to the day when you SUDDENLY sit bolt upright and go WOW! This guy is one of the best. Invest in you.

Mediocre
I think Dr Phils teachings are basic, I would recommend Martha Beck instead as I find her work more helpful and productive, I feel he just repeats himself. Louise Hay is fab aswell but that's only if you're interested in spirituality.

Pretty god, probably prefer to read it...
As I listen to books mostly in the car, this book wasn't ideal for me, as you are supposed to stop and do 'homework' of sorts, which obviously, you can't do in the car, so I gave up. But I do love Dr Phil, and his wisdom and warmth do come through in the book, its just impractical as an audiobook.
