Summary

"Never tease anything that wants to eat you. My name is April Tate and my blood is the new gold. Vampires and hybrids have overrun my world, once vibrant with life, but now a graveyard of death shrouded in shadows. I fight to survive; I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. And I'm just hoping to make it to the next Vegas sunrise..."

In a post-apocalyptic world, a viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth's population, leaving behind few humans but untold numbers of mutated vampires. April is a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in the remains of Las Vegas one year after the outbreak. She has become a ferocious vampire killer and after her family is abducted, she goes searching for them. What she finds is a new breed of vampire, unlike any she has seen before. Unsure of whom she can trust, she discovers that her view of the world is not as black and white as she once thought - and she's willing to bend the rules to rescue her family. But in trying to save them, she may only succeed in bringing her fragile world crashing down around her.

Great New Take on Vampires!

3.5-4 stars

This is a good beginning to what I hope will be a great series. For most of the book the main character April seems a little torn between being a tough, independent bad ass and a young confused girl who doesn't know what she is doing most of the time. Then towards the end she starts to finds her purpose but I still feel the insecurities in her actions. I would love to watch this character grow into herself!

The love story: I personally hate insta-love but can handle it in a fantasy setting. What I didn't love was that there was no build up or anything that made you understand this instant love. Neither of the characters seemed to feel a mental attraction to each other, it felt like they loved each other because the author said so more than showing us why. I would have loved to see a little more build up and another short scene or two where these characters get to know each other and we get to know their thoughts so we could feel the attraction a little more (if that makes sense).

I loved the story line, I like that it was different and almost like a zombie/vampire mix. This story doesn't leave you with a cliffhanger, more of an opening for what comes next which is a huge plus for me!

Narration.... I hate to say this but I am so confused by the way I feel about the narration! In the very beginning I thought I was going to hate it, she seemed a little high-strung and the recording seemed to have a little echo but as the story progressed it felt like she started to understand the characters more and did a much better job at hitting the right tones for the scenes. Her narrative voice was great through 90% of this book. The narration as a whole just felt a little uneven I guess.

I will be continuing on to book 2, so don't let my criticisms fool you, I generally liked this book

Great first full length novel in this series

I’m glad I listened to the novellas about blaze and his friends and the mfc and her family in the early days of the outbreak just to know more of the background.

4 star read I’m looking forward to continuing the series to know more what what makes this family special. Or if we will find out a hat exactly makes people turn into hybrids instead of getting lost to the craving virus and be a mindless bloodsucker.

Gifted audio in exchange for an honest review. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reign of Blood

Somehow April, a 17 year old girl, is still alive after the epidemic swept through a year ago and now the vampire factions are fighting over her blood thinking it holds the key to their freedom. April living in Las Vegas with her mother and brother has become quite the vampire hunter out of necessity, but once her family has been taken hostage things become, lets say intense.

I don't want to say to much for fear of spoilers, but this book only has one speed and that is fast. It comes out of the shoots fast and doesn't ever let up even leading into the next book. Plan to be up past you bedtime or if you are lucky enough to have the audio version narrated by Anne Marie Susan Silvey than plan to take the long way home from work or take some very long walks, as she makes this book so much more wonderful, if that is possible, by her voice. Either version you choose you won't go wrong.

An highly entertaining and addicting read!

Never tease anything that wants to eat you...

This book kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting more and more. I was anxiously waiting for the next page, next chapter and then it ended - leaving me sad and depressed. I cannot wait to read the next book in the Reign of Blood series!

Full of feral vampires, hybrids, lonelinesses, romance, hope and uncertainty.

Perfect for readers who enjoy post-apocalyptic novels and paranormal romances.

The narrator had a highly captivating voice. I have read this book numerous of times but this was my first time listening to the audiobook and was blown away by her voice - it hold you captive. Stunning!
