Summary
Steve Brown joined the army in 1993 as a troubled teenager and left as a respected sergeant-major in 2020. After passing the gruelling Parachute Regiment recruit process and selection for the elite Pathfinder Platoon he travelled the world, deployed on multiple operations, and pushed himself beyond breaking point, both physically and mentally. His story provides a unique insight into Britain's elite airborne forces, including their training, ethos, and indomitable mindset.
From desert to Arctic, jungle to delta, urban to rural, he's experienced some of the most hostile places on Earth. This autobiography covers the extreme highs and lows of a veteran's life with tales of humour, humility, hardship, and heroics.

Gritty Look at a man's life before and after serving in one of Britain's elite units
Great look into the life of a soldier before during and after a full career. civilians will get a sense of the mindset and sacrifice career soldiers make and veterans and serving will relate to many of the struggles, issues, laughs and trauma that soldiers of the last 20years have faced.
highly recommend this book great listen.

Brutally honest review on life in the military
Easy to listen, funny and relatable. I enjoyed every minute of this book and took a lot from it, if you're in the military or not give it a listen. Thank you.

straight forward and honest account of life in the elite British army, very enjoyable
straight forward and honest account of Steve Brown's life in and out of the army, having read many military biographies it's excellent how Steve has written this without a ghost writer, many more well known books could literally take a leaf out of this one! kudos to this man, makes me proud to be British

A truthful book from an exceptional soldier
I detest the word ‘squaddie’. A squaddie lived a life of beer and ill discipline. Steve was a professional soldier. He was my DS on my jungle SERE course and I learnt so much from him.
For Steve to bear his soul in the book was a brave and courageous thing, it made me think about my military career and my own mental shortcomings.
An exceptional read and I recommend to anyone.

If you’re interested in life’s ups and downs, listen to it. Self-narration adds to Steve Brown’s story of his life before, during and after his 27 years in the Paras & Pathfinders. Thank you for your outstanding service Steve Brown. I wish you and your family well.
