Summary

VBI (Vermont Bureau of Investigation) head Joe Gunther and his team are called in to investigate a series of violent deaths that appear unrelated until telltale clues reveal a linkage between them and that all of the deaths are, in fact, murders. However, apart from a single drop of unexplained blood left at each crime scene, there are no obvious connections between the victims or the cases.

In the search for the elusive truth, the VBI must plumb the depths of every suspect's past, every victim's most intimate details, and examine each piece of evidence down to the smallest detail - an examination which includes a trip to the Brookhaven National Lab and an exploration of cutting edge forensic technology.

Bring back Tom Taylorson!

The Joe Gunther novels are easy listening. Nothing particularly clever or sophisticated about them - but enjoyable brain candy. I devoured the first load of them as they were superbly performed by Tom Taylorson. I have no idea why the performer has been switched but it’s ruined the whole experience. I’m only sticking with them as I’ve read that after a few more boom Tom is indeed back at the helm. Thank goodness!

Too bad

I'm a long time fan of the "Joe Gunther" series, but I regret having listened to this. It's time for Joe to retire. Too much back-story, too many predictable ploys for suspense and too poor a narration.

What's with the narration?

I have read most of the Joe Gunther series from Archer Mayor. There have been some parts of these stories that border on being good literature, but the narration on the audiobooks makes Mayor's characters into caricature. I couldn't get the vision of a group of buffoons out of my head with some of the verbal exchanges, as offered by the narrator. Sadly, Joe Gunther comes out sounding like an oaf, which does not connect with my vision of him and his quiet strength. I won't listen to another.

liberal leaning

politics is fine but when you try and.ise the democrat candidate as the one who's honest it makes me question reading the rest of these books. if you can't be accurate about that when what else isn't

Still Can't Get Over the Narration

this book... damn it. Joe's personal life strikes again and I hate it :(

I love this series and this book hit me with the feels. I hope it's rerecorded with Taylorson.

Love the books, the audiobook no

I was disappointed in this! I love the books, but the audiobook rendition washes out the characters and makes them into people I didn't recognize. Very disappointing.

Mayor’s writing is always top notch. The plot and the development of it, were absolutely mesmerizing. The ending gives new meaning to plot twist. OUTSTAMDING in every way!!

This was a good one.

I truly miss the original narrator but this was a good story. One part got boring but in the end, it came through.
