Summary

The primordial waters, full of algae and unicellular organisms...not quite how one would imagine the end of the world, is it?

The goal is to evolve and reach the land. Use your teeth, claws, stings, and whatever else you deem appropriate to take down your opponents and survive in the New World.

Dan used to work at the Psychic Agency, making a living by swindling naive clients. One day, however, this came to a sudden halt. A group of thugs paid him a visit and took him away. As if that wasn't bad enough, the world had decided that it had had enough of us humans. After that day, humanity was no more. Those who survived the Apocalypse have been forced to fight for their lives.

Dan, much to his misfortune, didn't become a gray-bearded wizard he had always hoped to be. Little did he know, he'd be forced to start his new life from the very beginning. Perhaps he should have paid more attention in biology class.

Strange but entertaining.

My first encounter with Victor Alucard's writing and I enjoyed it a lot.

This has got to be one of the oddest litRPG novel I've ever listened to. As with many similar novels, it starts with select humans being spirited-away into another realm to then pursue adventure-y test and quest stuff. However, unlike any other novels, they aren't re-imaged as virtual beings able to select their species and beginner attributes. No, that would be cheating. Rather, they are materialized as single-cell amoeba and forced to evolve in a survival of the fittest fashion. The odd thing is that each of them retain their previous human personalities, skills and intelligence. From there, they form into a group and claw, fight and connive their way up the DNA chain, losing most of those who were part of the initial group.

Travis Baldree is an extremely talented narrator and is one of a limited number of such artists that I use as a search term on the Audible site when in search of a new novel while waiting for other preferred authors' next offerings. A new talented writer would be blessed to have Travis pick their book as its narrator.

Spore: The Litrpg

Writing is above average for the litrpg genre.
The concept caught my attention.
Think Spore, the Mmo.

Most characters feel flat, including the MC. Plenty of levelling up, but little character growth.
Almost no tension.

would like less focus on descriptions of enemies skills, and strategy, and more dialog, relationships, and tension.

a ridiculously high proportion of the clauses in this book start with 'I'. This paragraph for example
'I didnt mind.. also I... I ... so I hoped..I was one of the few...then I...'
/I/ think there's too much focus on the protagonist.

7hr 58min book and 39min of it is the 2nd book

What a rip off. First the book is shy of 8 houes, and after I buy it I find out 39 minutes of it is a "Preview" of book 2.
I Call B.S.
Instead of writing 3 short as hell books, try making 2 books that are over 10 hours ( like any decent author) but instead he is trying to make extra money on short ass 7 hour books.

OVERALL very shallow and absurd

shallow writing, unrelatable MC, absurd story plot, and equally one dimensional narrator with no other voice acting than needless bravado that makes my eyes roll many times

Original and written well

Pretty damn surprising to find something as original as this idea. Least for me. And I do go through a lot of books.
Great narrator
The story moves along at a great pace too.
I highly recommend this one.

Meh

After failing a high-school biology in favor of playing Spore (2008 game), perhaps with the help of some mushrooms the author created this "masterpiece"...

weird, confusing, yet entertaining.

this is by far the strangest LIT RPG I've ever read. not the best listen but far from the worst. the performance was confusing at times where there would be random breaks that seemed like they should be chapter breaks but just continued onto a new paragraph but otherwise Travis didn't do that bad at all. the story leaves something to be desired but it is a very unique story and other than that is a very good listen. the biggest downside I can say is that it is quite overpriced. 60$ for a 1 day listen is rather absurd
