Summary

Are you new to gardening or worried you don’t have enough space to create that bountiful garden you’ve been dreaming of, full of all your favorite fruit and veggies? Do you also want to do your bit to help the planet in the fight against climate change?

Whether your garden is big or small or you are a complete beginner, building raised beds can help you achieve the perfect garden. It offers many benefits over traditional gardening, including—improving the drainage, being able to manage the quality of the soil, extending your growing season, along with many more. And you don’t need to be an expert to build and manage raised beds.

People have many different reasons for wanting to grow food, but do you realize all the benefits it can have for the planet? We are all aware of the dangers of climate change and the destruction modern agriculture can have on the environment from its carbon emissions. Not only can raised beds provide you with the perfect garden and provide you with an abundance of food, you will also be doing your bit to help in the fight against climate change.

Not only does this book teach you how to build and maintain raised beds, it will teach you how to do this using permaculture principles. The permaculture movement has been around since the 1970s and its principles focus in using natural systems and processes to get the most out of your garden in the most efficient way possible. The idea is that by building relationships in your garden and feeding the soil, your plants will do most of the work for you—watering, pest control, and fertilizing.

Incorporating permaculture principles into your raised beds will not only help you start to live sustainably, it will also help you do this in a way that follows systems found in nature, in a way that benefits the planet.

In Raised Bed Gardening the Permaculture Way, you’ll learn:

  • The main advantages of raised beds;
  • The main principles of permaculture;
  • How to make use of rainwater
  • How to fertilize your soil using natural, organic fertilizers
  • Which plants love each other and which can’t stand the sight of each other;
  • How to attract beneficial insects to your garden to keep pests away;
  • How to maintain your raised beds;
  • Some mini permaculture projects to get you going;
  • A large plant directory;
  • Different raised bed designs

You may think you don’t have the space to start your own garden, but raised beds are perfect for small spaces or gardens with no lawn. And it doesn’t need to be overwhelming—start small and build up from there as you gain more confidence and experience.

Even if all you have done is tend to a few tomato plant, you can become an expert gardener; all it takes is a little time, patience, and practice. And remember, we have all made mistakes along the way. That’s how we improve and become better gardeners.

So if you want to be the proud owner of lots of home-grown fruits and vegetables and do your bit to help the planet at the same time, then buy now to get started today!

Fantastic Resource!!

My wife and I have wanted to do serious raised bed gardening for a while. We tried it at our old house, but it had very limited space, and we made many mistakes. Now that we have a bit more room in the new backyard, we're excited to get going and try it again. This is the first book (and probably the last on this topic) I think we'll need. It's very comprehensive. I wish we had this resource back when we started. The book/author doesn't assume you need lots of space, either. It's encouraging to know you can do this with only a little room. Oh...and I loved the storytelling in the book and the timeless narration!

Excellent gardening ideas!

I love this book because it has so many important topics that are not normally covered in other books, especially the irrigation. Creating water systems for your garden can be tricky. At least its been like that for me in the past. I love gardening and seeing things grow from nothing. Having an audiobook like this is a huge advantage. Much recommended!

New information

It is known that if you want to develop yourself, then learn something new. And it would be better if this new information is not in your field of expertise, so here I am. I do not have a garden at home, and never thought about gardening, but after listening to this book, I found that there are several benefits to the presence of cultivation in the home gardening by knowing the basic principles of using suitable soil and how to benefit from rain water and again something never heard of, is the beneficial insects. The book shows you the basic principles for using the effective method to get a good results. The book is well written with excellent narration.

I never knew the garden bed should fit you...

The measurements of making the bed isn't all the same. So many people build a shallow bed that might end up drying up too fast. But different plants require more depth. I have some back problems so i was learning all sorts of measurements, whats required for different plants. The brilliance of what kind of soil or the building materials all matter. Each item should benefit each other to prevent failure or some meds become so compacted and exhausted. Some plants and trees last a certain amount of time or years, i never would have known these times of year or specifics if it wasn't for this awesome audiobook. You're going to love it.

Extremely helpful book!

As someone who didn't know a lot about gardening, this book was exactly what I was looking for! Particularly because I'm in an urban environment without a lot of space (like a lot of people), and using raised beds makes gardening possible. My fiancee loves plants, so this is a great hobby for us to do together. The author does an excellent job of breaking things down into easy to follow steps that anyone can follow. Very happy I came across this book! Looking forward to the gardening journey ahead of me.

No Space is Too Small

I didn't know that you can use permaculture principles to make the best of small spaces. I enjoyed the fact that this book takes it from the basics (which I really needed) before digging into the hows. The main reason I was hesitating to start was water and I like that there's a chapter addressing that as well. This book is really comprehensive.

Highly recommended

My father, a gardening enthusiast, has recently been learning how to build and maintain raised beds. But at his age, his eyesight makes it very challenging for him to consult books. This way of listening to books was a timely help for him. So I recommend this book to him. The book contains everything he wants to know, how to fertilize the soil with natural organic fertilizers, how to attract beneficial insects to your garden and keep pests away, and the knowledge provided has helped him a lot. He has built his raised bed gardening very well by now.
