About this listen
Arimnestos of Plataea was one of the heroes of the Battle of Marathon, in which the heroic Greeks halted the invading Persians in their tracks, and fought in the equally celebrated naval battle at Salamis.
But even these stunning victories only served to buy the Greeks time, as the Persians gathered a new army, returning with overwhelming force to strike the final killing blow.
For the Greeks, divided and outnumbered, there was only one possible strategy: attack. And so, in the blazing summer of 479 BC, Arimnestos took up his spear one final time at the Battle of Plataea.

Great series
Great series, I thoroughly enjoyed all six books. I suggest looking at ancient maps to understand the geography, it helps to get the story in your head as it’s been told.

Another lump in my throat at the conclusion.
Not flawless, but in describing aspects of human nature, and highlighting the difference between those who can and those who can't, those who care and those who don't, those who serve and those who won't, still pure wisdom.

A Thoroughly Researched Masterpiece
It’s sad to end an incredible saga. Christian Cameron’s writing is emotional and vivid, and I feel educated without being ‘spoon fed’. (Students studying Herodotus would enjoy and learn I feel). Further to this the stellar and consistent performance of peter noble makes it feel more like theatre in your head rather than a standard audiobook. Superb all round!

tears
of joy and sadness, an epic worthy of the best in literature, terrific writing, that as an owner of over 250 historical novels I can say Christian Cameron is no.1, hopefully audible takes tyrant next and peter noble tells the tale in his masterful way, and maybe one day arimnestos will tell the tales of the epilogue.

Brilliant
Makes the age come alive one of the best historical fiction I have read and listened to. The equal of Bernard Cornwall or Simon Scarrow enthralling
