Summary

Under cover of night in Richmond, Virginia, a human monster strikes, leaving a gruesome trail of stranglings that has paralysed the city. Medical examiner Kay Scarpetta suspects the worst: a deliberate campaign by a brilliant serial killer whose signature offers precious few clues. With an unerring eye, she calls on the latest advances in forensic research to unmask the madman. But this investigation will test Kay like no other, because it’s being sabotaged from within - and someone wants her dead.

Won't bother again

I can't understand how Patricia Cornwall has achieved such success. Nothing gripped me in this novel suffice to say I can't even recall most of it.
A different narrator may have improved things a tad as I found Lorelei's monotone drawl nothing short of irritating.

OK but not much of a plot.

I am amazed this series went on to sell millions. It is full of cardboard characters and has a tissue thin plot line.

Very good

Had to stick with it for the first hour or so! Very glad I did. Very good story. Excellent narrator.
I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I could be hooked on these!

intriguing murder story

This is the first time I've read Patricia Cornwell and I plan to read more. A bit remeniscent if some if the Bones books and some of the writing is 'of its time', but it kept me gripped until the end. Lorelei King is great narrator.

Exceptionally good audio book. Great story line.

Once I got into the Flow of it, couldn't put it down. Good book.

Great book, not sure about parts of the narration

I read this (and many of the others in the series) years ago when it first came out, and thought I would revisit it in audio form. Still an excellent book, but I am not sure about the narrator here. I did find some of the voices that Lorelei King uses in the narration a little grating, especially that of Marino and Lucy. Still very enjoyable though and I would recommend it.

Very nice book and perfect interpretation

Suspense up until the end and the narrator changes voices for every single character, she is impressive!

Sadly DNF as I found the narration slow and irritating. The plot/story wasn't much better. Will be returned to Audible.
