Summary

Peregrin Otis Grimshaw (Pog) has a problem. He’s almost 10 and has to spend his holiday at his grandmother’s cottage. No wi-fi and no phone - living without any of life’s gadgets is bad, but things get worse when he accidentally releases an evil force, unlocking the secret that Gran really isn’t who he thought she was. Falling through to the alternative world of Twistedwood, Pog finds himself in a land where playing games is not just a way of life - it is life. Having stuck his nose where it shouldn’t be, Pog now must fulfill a prophecy, rescue his kidnapped grandmother, and save both worlds from a crazy ruler intent on conquest.

A brilliant adventure story

My grand daughter and I read this book and now have the audible version as well. It’s a gripping tale of overcoming obstacles and growing in skills and courage.

brilliant book, well narrated

I read this book to my 3 year old daughter just before bed and each time we stopped reading she wanted to have more of it as she really enjoyed it.

Personally when I read the book I was reading it as a Beta Reader to start with and then once it was finished I re-read it as a ‘normal’ reader to see what changes were made and whether it improved the book at all. To be honest as I was reading it the first time there were not many changes needed to make it a polished book. This made re-reading it that much more enjoyable as I knew what was coming and I could therefore read deeper things into it and could see how what the people did would eventually lead to certain situations later in the book.

I really liked the way that Pog interacted with the other main characters in the book and how he didn’t appear too surprised with everything that was happening, especially considering he was thrown into a completely new world with lots of weird things happening to him.

The book overall was a brilliant read and I would recommend it to children and adults alike, and I would give it a definite 5 stars. I am eagerly waiting to read the sequel when, or if, it is written as I loved this one a lot.

the above is from the book but I have since bought the audiobook and I listened to it with my now 10 year old along with my 6 year old and they both still love it.
