Summary
Ricki Sparks knows she can make a mean red velvet cake but can’t believe she’s let herself be talked into a blind date. When she opens the door to see the man she’s been secretly sweet on since the first day he walked into her bakery, she fears her heart will be demolished. At least she knows she’s in for a wild ride.
With a past like his, private investigator Garrett McBride doesn’t feel he’s worthy of a good woman’s love. Especially not Ricki, the sweet, beautiful baker. But its not just her delectable baked goods that keep him coming back and it isn’t long before he admits to himself that he wants her for his own. He never suspects that the greatest danger to her may come not from himself, but from the deceitful woman Ricki has befriended.
Love may not be the only thing Ricki falls into along the way as she finds herself in a world of deceit and betrayal that may cost her life. While Ricki is fighting for her life, Garrett must find her, before it’s too late.

Nail biting story.
Book 5, Ricki and Garrett's story.
I would not want to encounter a Psychotic person like Dena. This is just a story but there are delusional people like her in real life. An eye opening read that will remind you not ignore your instinct or the reaction of your pet to someone. The suspense in these stories are nail biting and unpredictable. OMG! I love the super 🐕 dog, even all drugged up he saved Ricki. Great writer and narrator.

I do enjoy listening to David Quimby.
Two people who don't believe they are good enough for each. Both struggling with their pasts. Both full of love , a need for each other.
One nasty, hard and selfish friend, with her own agenda.
I loved these characters and the strengths.

Nice romance with a bit of suspense
I enjoyed this story. The story flow and content were decent, and the characters were interesting. The suspense was okay, not intense until near the end. I haven't read the previous four books in the series, but it wasn't necessary to follow the story. Although, it piqued my interest to go back and start from the beginning, as the author makes several references to things that happened previously. When a new woman comes to town, Garrett's private investigator instincts are up? But will he decipher the feelings of unease he feels whenever Dee comes around in time to save the woman who has captured his heart? Will Ricki see through her new friend's devious plan? Have Garrett and Ricki found true love. These questions are all answered in this captivating story of love. My only dislike, which is a matter of personal taste and no knock against the author, is that there is too much detailed sex. I like my romances a little cleaner and focusing more on the romance of a story and not the sex. The narrator did a good job and had a clear voice and professional editing. **I was offered a free audio book in exchange for a review, which in no way influenced my opinion,

Awesome Listen!
I really enjoyed this book, Playing with You by Cheyenne McCray. The chemistry between the baker and the cowboy was great. I loved how they tried to fight their attraction until it ignited. The author wove great background into this story as well, so it is a standalone listen. The added suspense of a stalker was a big plus for me in this book. The dog, Xena was also a big plus. Pets are part of the family, and it fit the book perfectly.
David Quimby did an outstanding performance with his narration. I love it when a narrator has distinguishable voices for the various characters that one knows who is speaking just by the voice. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Ricki and Garrett
I love the series and this book is no different. The author knows how to spin a tale of second chances at happiness, a protective Alpha cowboy, a curvy baker and a psycho newcomer that threatens their HEA. Quite a twist, there is the hint of wrong with Dena from the beginning, but wasn't sure how serious till well into the story. What a piece of work! Glad her plan didn't succeed and Garrett and Ricki got their HEA. Loved the upside down cake scene LOL
I am a huge fan of Mr. Quimby's work, bringing the story to life with his talent. Looking forward to more... a lot more. Keep talking and I will keep listening :D

sweet treats, hot PI and stalker woman...
Garrett is one of those hot McBride men...we met him in earlier books in the series. He is set up on a blind date with Ricki the baker and was pleasantly surprised that he enjoyed her company. Ricki has been harboring a secret crush on Garrett but, due to her bad experience with an abusive ex, is hesitant about relationships...however, she is willing to maybe give Garrett a chance. Ricki meets Dena, who is new to town and, since she was lonely when she first moved, is welcoming and befriends Dena. When Garrett meets Dena, his PI 'spidey' senses feels that something is off with her but he can't put a finger on it. Meanwhile, life is coming together for Ricki...she's dating Garrett, her business is thriving and she and Dena have become great friends...or is it? Turns out that all is not well with Dena. Will Garrett piece together the clues before it's too late for Ricki? I enjoyed the story...albeit sometimes I wanted to shake Ricki and tell her to quit being so trusting! Great HEA...everyone got what they deserved :-). Great job by the narrator with the various characters.
I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A good addition!
Cheyenne McCray continues her winning streak with Garrett and Ricki's story. Ricki runs the local bakery and when set up on a blind date, who should come to the door, but Garrett, the man who has been frequenting her bakery. Garrett is a private investigator and with his family traits does not think he is worthy of Ricki's love, but finds he cannot stay away. Ricki befriends Dena, a new woman in town, and when Garrett meets her, his investigative intuition is put on high alert. But what harm can Ricki's new friend be? This story in true McCray fashion keeps the passion and steam high, and the suspense building. Ricki and Garrett had a little bit of a slow burn, but when they ignited, the flames were hot! Xena the dog is a fun incorporation, I love having animals as part of the "family". Add that to the creep factor that Dena brings to the table and this story will keep you listening, just to find out how it will end.
David Quimby continues his wonderful narration of this series. It would not be Prescott to me without him, his voices are the town characters including the previous brothers we met in earlier stories. I love his pace and his variety of voices always makes it easy to know who is talking. I can't wait for more!

Cowboy meets Baker
Garrett has been in the Bakery quite often and Ricki has noticed him a lot. Fate sets them up on a blind date and just as they hit it off another woman enters the picture and is set on breaking them up. I enjoyed the story and the narration.

Playing With You
I said it before and I will say it again, the narrator well he just sounds too old for these characters.
I liked Ricki’s character a lot she is down to earth and knows what she wants out of life.
Her blind date was sweet I loved that it was him and he was hoping it was her.
I think my only real dislike with this book was how fast they feel for each other, I think if the book had been over a few months’ verses weeks it would have felt more real.
Also holy freaking heck that is scary how someone can become so obsessed with you and you have no idea. Crazy doesn’t even describe it.

A New Start?
This book includes threads of many common themes: Trying to leave the past behind, trying to start in a new place or start-up a new place, new relationships, rivalries, and obsession. The unexpected views and approaches that the characters take with these themes makes the story fresh and surprising.
The narrator is put to the test with this book, being a male voice and having to deal with several intense, emotional, and nuanced conversations between two of the female main characters is difficult, but as always this narrator's performance shows many varied voices and is excellent.
This book being the 5th book in the series was my first introduction to it. However, even though many of the characters have history, the focus of this book makes it easy to read as a stand alone and may inspire me to investigate the series further

Exciting, steamy and chilling
This is a combination of romance and thriller, with a nice dose of steam added in. Rikki and Garrett are appealing characters that you can’t help but like and they both have realistic insecurities and pasts. The tension and twists as the plot unfurls is great, and the narrator of the audiobook really pulls you into the story. His voice fits the characters well and you can feel the heat and the tension appropriately. This is a great, easy listening story that is exciting, steamy and tense

Wow
Omg David Quimby is great at narrating this book. The audiobook was almost better than my paperback or ebook copies just because I could listen with I was working. Cheyenne McCray is a great writer and Playing with You is a great book with great characters. I don't like a lot of male narrators but David has become one of my favorites.

Suspenseful and gritty story
Ricki and Garrett have a sneaky relative who sets them up on a date. Just so happens they are both smitten with the other. Enter this Denna woman who seems to always appear and get in the way. There is much more to the story, loved every moment in the car listening to this one.
Excellent narration and original storyline as well.

Garrett gripped my heart with both hands!
These McBride men never disappoint! There is just something about the tried and true nature of the strong men from a small town. Narrator David Quimby brings Garrett and Ricki to life in such a way that it's impossible to imagine anyone else in that role. He has McBride coursing through his veins I tell you!
This was another fantastic story woven by the gifted Cheyenne McCray. Book 5 in this series has us rooting for small town baker Ricki and private investigator Garrett after a very successful blind date. Thank you Fate!
Ricki has always had a crush on Garrett McBride but lacked the courage to act on her feelings. When fate intervenes and she gets her shot, she intends to make the most of it. I loved Garrett's reaction to seeing Ricki when he realizes she is his date for the evening. They have wonderful chemistry and a connection that felt real and heartfelt. Reminded me of the first dates that I had back in the day, all full of hope and promise. So sweet!
Garrett becomes quite smitten with Ricki and is determined to help her see the beautiful woman he sees in her. Ricki blossoms under Garrett's attention and affection and the two set off some serious fireworks. Their attraction to one another can be felt easily and quite intensely with the emotion portrayed in the narration. I had goosebumps!
With everything going so well between the two lovebirds, it's hard to believe that something sinister is lurking in the shadows. Good hearted Ricki has befriended a newcomer to the town by the name of Dena. Even though Garrett has mixed feelings about the woman, Ricki thinks Dena is just misunderstood and perhaps her loneliness can explain some of Dena's more odd behavior. She never thought that Dena may pose any danger to her or to Garrett, which makes for an interesting turn of events in this story. Very clever twist!
Overall, this was another fascinating story set in the town of Prescott. It is well written and captivating. Garrett is another swoon worthy McBride sure to set your ear buds blazing so don't miss out! There is plenty of heat, humor, romance, and sweetness delivered in spades by the talented performance of David Quimby. It seems David and Cheyenne are one amazing pair! Keep em' coming!
