About this listen

London, 1812: Treacherous gangs roam the capital, and not even the Palace of Westminster is safe. When Detective Stephen Lavender is called in to investigate a highway robbery and a cold-blooded murder, both the cases take a dangerous and disturbing personal twist.

And when Lavender's trusted deputy, Constable Ned Woods, finds a mysterious severed foot washed up on Greenwich Beach, they soon realise that these ancient bones are more sinister than they first appeared.

With Bow Street Police Office undermanned and in disarray, it will take all of Lavender and Woods's wit and skill - and some help from Lavender's spirited wife, Magdalena - to unmask the fiend behind the mayhem, restore peace and justice to the beleaguered city and solve the tragic mystery of the severed foot.

But will they do so in time to foil a plot that threatens to plunge the country into chaos?

Rubbish

It is a pity you cannot find readers who can speak and understand the English language!

Good days read.

Beware of the gory descriptions in the first chapter unexpected. Later descriptions are prewarned .
clever use of history to drive a clever & informative story which could have been true.
Further info on the slave trade is available from the Museum on the Albert docks in Liverpool .
once or twice modern idiom pops into the narrative but does not spoil the narrative.
I am going to check out further Detective Lavender stories.
Well narrated.

Another Brilliant Novel from Karen Charlton

I have really enjoyed all the Detective Lavender books, and this one does not disappoint. Michael Page is a great narrator for the stories.

It was ok

Nothing to write home about but it was okay.
Narration was a bit dull at times.

Nearly gave up on this SEVERAL times.

I found this book very hard to get into and nearly gave up on it several times. My mind would often wonder and I got to chapter 26 I think it was, before it got remotely interesting.

This was the fourth in the Inspector Lavender series and perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I'd have started from the first book but judging by this I doubt I'll bother to go back and listen to book one.

Ok

I'm afraid that for me the melodramatctheatrical narration spoilt what may have been a better listen. Authors who try to recapture the writing stye of an earlier time invariably fail and it is difficult to take it seriouly, it becomes a parody of itself.

Brilliant

One of the most fascinating books I have heard in a long time. The narrator is brilliant and I cannot wait to hear the next book in the series.

Brilliant as usual, couldn't stop listening. A true insight into early policing and wonderful imagery of old London towns underworld.
