About this listen
A secret government unit is formed under the oversight of Adam Harrison, famed paranormal investigator. The six members he’s gathered know a little of the otherworldly - each has honed a psychic talent of their own.
Jackson Crow, part English, part Cheyenne, heads the group. Haunted by his experience with an ancestral ghost who saved his life as a child, and the recent murders of two previous teammates, Jackson can’t tell if Adam’s demoted him or given him an extraordinary opportunity. Despite his link to the realm of spirits, he’s well aware that the living commit the most heinous crimes, with spiritualist charlatans existing merely to fool and seduce the unwary.
To counterbalance Jackson’s careful skepticism, Adam Harrison has paired him with Angela Hawkins, a young woman who learned the painful lesson of loss at an early age. A police officer utilizing her paranormal intuition in Virginia, she already has her hands full. But Adam’s call to New Orleans is strong.
The case: In a historic mansion in New Orleans’ French Quarter, a senator’s wife falls to her death from a balcony. Most think she jumped, distraught over the loss of her young son. Some say she was pushed. And yet others believe she was beckoned by the ghostly spirits that inhabit the house - once the site of a serial killer’s grisly work. Whether supernatural or all too human, crimes of passion, greed, and desire will cast the pair into danger of losing their lives... and their immortal souls.

The ghosts were more believable than the humans
This book needed a more vigilant editor, several times awkward descriptive phrases really jarred and often they were repeated. The overall story was ok, not really surprising but given that a bunch of ghosts were involved I expected to be a bit more surprised. What annoyed me the most was that the chemistry between the so called team was completely unbelievable, one of them has a weird speech halfway through the book about how amazing the team leader is and how they've all gelled so well and I honestly thought it must be sarcastic. But no! Surely if you need to have your characters state something so overtly then it must tell you that you're not communicating the message any other way! And finally the so-called detective work was laughable, so many baseless assumptions were made that again I honestly expected to find out that one of the characters was psychic or had a magic ability. But no apparently these people are just great at guessing without any evidence or even without basic procedures to check. Sloppy work.
If you want magic and policing then go and download a Ben Aaronovitch book, if you've already read all of those try Benedict Jacka. If, like me, you've already read all of those then you should probably still look elsewhere unless you're not as annoyed by one dimensional characters and gaping plotholes as I am.

First Book in The Krewe of Hunters series.
Phantom Evil is the first of a series of books following the development of a specialist FBI Unit- The Krewe of Hunters.
The Krewe are a group of talented individuals, all of whom have some aspect of a 'special' skill - seeing (communicating) with dead people.
This book set up the format for future books ( up to number 25 in June 2018), all of which have a romantic element.
I read this book a number of years ago but still enjoyed listening to it again. It is an 'easy read's that you can dip in and out of depending on what you are doing as you listen.

dreadfully dull
A tiresome non-event of a story poorly narrated, with some very dodgy accents. Literally nothing happens in the first 9 chapters I endured before giving up. Annoyed I wasted a credit on this.
