About this listen

Lt. Eve Dallas is back and this time she's investigating the death of one of her own

When a retired police officer is found dead in his home, Lt. Eve Dallas and the team are called to the scene to investigate. The victim is Martin Greenleaf, former Captain of Internal Affairs. At first glance it looks like suicide but Eve thinks there could be more to this carefully laid scene than meets the eye.

Captain Greenleaf put a lot of cops away during his forty-seven years in Internal Affairs. Did the weight of the job finally prove too much for him? Or could this be a case of payback in death.....©2023 J. D. Robb (P)2023 Hachette Audio UK

The story was very good and it had a good build up. I have listen to it many times and would again. I like how she knew who did it and how she built her case with her team. Great read

Lost count of how many Eve Dalas books I've read (sadly missed an odd one) and this book was as good as the others. First book I read was purity in death and was hooked. The characters have grown and matured over the series thanks to the brilliant writer. The work relationships throughout are believable and make you feel part of a great family. Not too much blood and gore in this story but still kept you puzzeled to the end. Susan Erikson is a great reader.

The MTs and police to response was sent at sixteen-forty-eight.
The police and MTs arrived at Sixteen-forty-two
Apart from that the book was really enjoyable.
Really surprised that Susan Ericksen did not pick this up when narrating the
manuscript.

I enjoyed this story. I liked the fact that it took awhile for Eve to put things together and the frustration there. Of course with everything going on in the media on the last few years, JD Robb wanted to give highlight to the corrupt police (she's done it before) but of course emphasise the fact that there are also good ones. The problem is that we can't have a mixed bag of good and bad cops, if you were told that there were pilots who could fly and could not, would we put up with it??

Susan Ericksen has done a good job, I've never gelled with her Peabody, she sounds like she's slow witted but apart from that all her accents/voices are well done.

loved it. I love expecially when you know from the beginning who it is but then have to connect the why of it.

Another excellent book in this gripping series. Yes, like another reviewer, I thought I knew who’d done it most of the way through; it was the ‘why’ that I needed … however there was always a bit of tension - a hint of ‘could it be someone else?’

As always, the characters come alive - they seem to be real people, almost old friends!
Looking forward to the next one!

Never disappoints!

The how was easy. Trying to work out the why. Keeps you guessing till the end.
