About this listen

THE HEART-POUNDING NEW BOOK IN THE KAREN PIRIE SERIES, NOW A MAJOR ITV SERIES STARRING LAUREN LYLE

__________

Edinburgh, haunted by the ghosts of its many writers, is also the cold case beat of DCI Karen Pirie. So she shouldn't be surprised when an author's manuscript appears to be a blueprint for an actual crime.

Karen can't ignore the plot's chilling similarities to the unsolved case of an Edinburgh University student who vanished from her own doorstep. The manuscript seems to be the key to unlocking what happened to Lara Hardie, but there's a problem: the author died before he finished it.

As Karen digs deeper, she uncovers a spiralling game of betrayal and revenge, where lies are indistinguishable from the truth and with more than one unexpected twist . . .

The Queen of Crime Val McDermid is at the top of her game in her most gripping and fiendishly clever case yet.©2023 Val McDermid (P)2023 W. F. Howes Ltd

The unexpected twist

Love the narrative, the extra little nuances,, I was almost savouring the chocolates eaten whilst discussing the case against the murderer.

A Really Great Listen

To start with, I love this Author and narrator as well as the series. So straight away this book is a winner for me.
The story, I felt was different from the norm, it also brought back quite a few memories of Covid.
All in all it was interesting, thought provoking, and sad. we

Another great book by the author

As usual, the author managed to bring to life the characters and make the story a compelling read. Some aspects didn’t hang completely believable to me but this did not detract too much from the enjoyment.

Don’t mess with the Police

Probably one of the best Val McDermott books I’ve listened to. All the twists and turns you normally expect the narrator was superb. Can only highly recommend this.

Val McDermid is amazing

Wow! Twists and turns. She has excelled herself. What creativity, keeping us guessing as she weaves her tale of deception

What a great story

Detective Chief Inspector Karen Pirie is back with Cathleen McCarron. Was so glad I just happened to search for Karen Pirie and discovered a new title, and expertly narrated by Cathleen McCarron. Roll on the next one

The return of KP nuts

Our Karen Pirie is back . So pleased this book was reissued with Cathleen McCarron as narrator (despite wasting a credit on previous execrable version).

Wonderful narration

So glad I didn’t buy the previous release with the other narrator. I have been enjoying this series because I like the character Pirie and also really enjoyed listening to McCarron wonderful narration.
