Summary

In this provocative spiritual autobiography, Diarmuid O'Murchu explores the many paschal journeys in his personal life as well as in the life of the church and the world. He shows how the paschal paradox—the movement through death and resurrection—is at the heart of God's creation and gives meaning to all life.

Critic reviews

“It feels strange to so strongly recommend this book because I feel like I am almost recommending myself, if that is not too narcissistic to say! Although Diarmuid is genuinely much more a scholar and scientist than I am, we have come to so many of the same conclusions about the Gospel, church, religious life, spirituality, and meaning itself. Read and be fed by my Irish brother.”—Fr. Richard Rohr, OFM, author, The Universal ChristThe Wisdom Pattern

"Drink deeply, reader, from the well of wisdom that is Diarmuid O'Murchu. In this volume you are gifted with an overview of the history of evolutionary spirituality, how to integrate it within a Christian framework with integrity, as well as a glimpse into the author's own evolving faith over the course of a life well-lived. The paschal mystery comes alive in the lived history of a man who has successfully struggled to mine the deep and abiding mystery of what is essential about life and about the Christian faith."—Bruce Sanguin, author, The Way of the Wind and Dismantled

"Diarmuid O’Murchu has written a brave and honest book that opens our hearts and minds to the power of human reconciliation with Spirit and Earth and the necessary rebuilding of a sacred ethos for our time. Paschal Paradox: Reflections on an Evolutionary Life is a tribute to one man’s search for truth and the profound inner changes he undergoes to be free of punitive or exclusive cultural and religious identities, and, ultimately, to embrace a different understanding of God—an evolutionary spirituality of an expansive, unfolding universe of cosmic wonder. What makes this book particularly compelling is O’Murchu’s quotidian details of soul challenges imbedded in the Irish struggles, Catholic identity, and religious sectarianism."—Beverly Lanzetta, author, Radical Wisdom and The Monk Within; theologian and spiritual teacher

Compelling

Really enjoyed this. As the author is irish the very strong American accent of the reader is a bit disconcerting, overall it’s a compelling book and a challenging one that intersects autobiography with life’s great challenges and callings, if we are prepared to listen and accept change and paradox
