Summary

Life has never been easy for Duncan Stiel. His childhood was the stuff of nightmares, and his day job as an undercover police officer forces him to hide his true self and occasionally lands him in the hospital. So when he finally meets the perfect man, it comes as no surprise that everything falls apart around him. What Duncan doesn't expect is that the hardest hurdle to get over before he can make a life with Aaron Sutter is the one inside himself.

Everyone thinks Aaron has it all - looks, money, fame, and success beyond measure. Everyone, that is, except Aaron. At the end of the day, the cameras stop flashing, friends go back to their own lives, company business is handled, and Aaron is always alone. The moment he meets Duncan Stiel, Aaron knows he'll do anything to hold onto the larger-than-life detective. But when he realizes money won't buy him the ultimate happiness, Aaron needs to find the strength to give Duncan something much more important - his heart.

Enjoyable Story

The concept is interesting and well written. The characters are likeable and the narration is good.

Loved this book

I really enjoyed this story, it was so good to see Duncan and Aaron get a HAE together. The narrator helped bring the story alive.

Ah...may...zing!

Amazing! First let me say...if ur a m/m Romance fan and u don't know Mary Calmes...well shame on u!

This is book 7 of the Matter of Time series...and it was awesome! Books 1-5 is on AUDIBLE so download and enjoy first. Also if u want some back history on Duncan then get Acrobat which is also on here..

Now we all remember Aaron Sutter, Jory's ex...the billionaire hotel magnet...so Aaron and Duncan meet in book 6 (which is not on here) had a weekend fling and that's where this book begins

Aaron was so not this alpha in the other books...because he was chasing Jory. In this, Aaron alphaness was subtle...but man when whipped out the money leverage...people started to bow down! Money really can buy anything!

Duncan was like another version of Sam, after he realised he was in love with Jory. Two alphas coming together but willing to submit to each other! It was great...and the reversible collar was the sweetest thing ever!

Narration was awesome!

Total l y worth a buy credit or sale for any m/m Romance fan!

Loved the narrator.

Would you consider the audio edition of Parting Shot to be better than the print version?

I'd have to say yes in this case. The narrator did a great job bringing Duncan Stiel to life and a lot of the time it really felt like you were actually sitting there, listening to this guy telling his story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Parting Shot?

When Duncan was hurt and Aaron broke their cover because of it.
Also, the moment Duncan unintentionally declared his love for Aaron while they were stuck in the security tower.

Which character – as performed by Tristan James – was your favorite?

Duncan Stiel.

Who was the most memorable character of Parting Shot and why?

Duncan Stiel. He's just such an interesting guy. Tough, but sweet. Powerful and dominant on the surface, but submissive behind closed doors. He's a lot more interesting than Jory was.

Any additional comments?

I kind of wish this narrator could have done the a Warder series...

Sex, Sex, Sex, Sex, Sex, Sex...

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for sex, this is it. But if you're looking for story, do not bother. I am going to return this one...or at least try to. Tristan you were as always, in my opinion, good. The only saving grace to this book. Mary, the sex scenes were good, but what happened to the story!? Listener, I have been thru this series, and this was a definite disappointment.

Great ending to my series

What did you love best about Parting Shot?

Duncan and Aaron's story, all of it!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Parting Shot?

When Aaron shows up at Duncan's apartment after the 4 month misunderstanding.

What three words best describe Tristan James’s performance?

Good, not great

Any additional comments?

Tristan James is a good narrator, but he read a little slow and sometimes it was hard to decipher which character he was doing. Sometimes it was hard to tell if it was Aaron or Duncan. I have read this book so I knew, but change in inflection would have helped some. Overall great read and audio

A spin off more than part of series

Aaron and Duncan's story was great but only references to Sam and Jory

Tristan did a great job narrating BUT his pronunciation of Jory changed to Yory for part of book with even Aaron's character making that mistake

My ocd caused me to not finish book first time. But second time I realized he corrected himself in last part of book

A new instalment

Just when you were getting tired of the Jory plot line, along comes this little gem. I'm always a fan of Mary Calmes and this book doesn't disappoint.
I'm sure I've got nearly all the books in the series.

Ehhh...not bad. I might revise after listening again.

In my review for Calmes’ Acrobat, I mentioned that I’d like to get a story for Duncan. I’m not a diehard Calmes fan, so I decided to look up Duncan on the off chance he had a story somewhere that I didn’t know about. And guess what! After seeing it was part of the Jory/Sam series, I knew why I had never known that Duncan did indeed get his happy ending—I’m not a Sam and Jory fan. Well...I was a fan of Sam from the Marshals series, until I started listening to Matter of Time and decided I couldn’t possibly listen to 5 or 6 books about Jory and Sam without lobbing my head off. That feeling did carry over into this book about Duncan and Aaron quite a bit. The blurb made this seem like a relatively low-angst happy book about the couple. I would definitely not classify it that way. It was like “will they or won’t they” and “what the heck is happening NOW” and “why is this relevant” wrapped up in one. It was just...okay. Duncan’s personality in this book seemed like a complete 180 from how he was portrayed in Acrobat and that was slightly disappointing. And for someone who frequented bathhouses because he wouldn’t/couldn’t come out because of his job, he sure had no issues throwing in the towel when it came down to it. Mostly, I just had a hard time buying into the “let’s go to a gay resort to get info on someone” storyline. It can be a good storyline if done right (i.e. The Assignment), but this just seemed like a total reach.

And the narration—I love Tristan James and he always does a superb job. I also know that narrators can’t necessarily take free reign over how they read what’s written. As in, if the author puts the wrong word down (like prostrate instead of prostate), the narrator has to read what is written and part of that is due to the whispersync needing to match on both sides. I also know that most authors (or someone in their wheelhouse) proof audios before they go live. Knowing all that, how the heck did Jory end up Yory half the time and not get caught by...anyone? That might have been the most bizarre part of the whole thing.

Smokin Spin off characters

Welcome to the world of Aaron and Duncan. Aaron billionaire, Duncan local cop - no way you say. Oh yes these guys are not joking they have what it takes and are willing to give it all. I loved that this started off being truthful. No games, their attraction is brutally honest. They quickly realize issues they have had in their past relationships like Duncan not living openly and Aaron not feeling he could - just can't apply this time. They get on the same page quickly so we get to enjoy the story and their adventure and steamy love life.

Loving Tristan as narrator. Mary Calmes feel free to continue their story I'm sure we will follow.

Not as good as the previous

The story isnt bad but just not one where u feel connected to the main characters and u dont really believe the love story when u have listen to sutter having feelings for jory during the last couple of books. It kind of needed more - because the rest of the series is over-the-top made for u LOVE and if u get this far in the series u enjoy the fantasy of that. And the u will be disapointed, i Think.
