Summary
The New York Times best-selling author of Life's Too Short delivers a refreshingly modern fairy tale perfect for fans of Casey McQuiston and Emily Henry.
After a wild bet, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who's 10 years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.
While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn't need glory or fame. She's fine with being a 'mere' ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she's discovering just what's really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.
Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can't just give up the joy she's found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?

So good I became grumpy if I had to do anything other than listen to this book
It really was that good. I consume a lot of romance. This book made me stop and completely become absorbed. The characters genuinely grow throughout the story and you fall in love with them as they fall in with each other. Daniel Grant, a new and forever book boyfriend. Also it has farm animals, cute ones with silly names, I mean common…that should make you want to listen to this book alone.
Trigger warning for the theme of domestic abuse, but I would say this is done brilliantly. The theme is not there for a harrowing effect but instead is an exploration of the experience of survivors. Giving a frame to understand domestic abuse and talk about it.

What a wonderful book
I listened to “Life’s too short” first and thought surely this wouldn’t be as good, but boy was I wrong. What a fantastic book, outlining issues that you don’t read about in these types of books and Abby Jimenez has done it so well! The narration is also so heart felt - specially the emotional scenes! So many hilarious moments too and honestly this author is becoming my favourite. Highly recommend.

Well written
I loved this book! The quality of the writing was exceedingly good. Had I been reading it on my Kindle app instead of listening to the audiobook, I would no doubt have highlighted several passages. The story kept me gripped from start to finish. There was angst, all the feels of a good romance, a beautiful setting, a great cast of characters and the right amount of steam.
What raised this even higher in my regard was that both characters, but particularly Alexis, went on a journey of self-knowledge and self-actualisation. The issue of physical/emotional abuse is sensitively and meaningfully portrayed. This was not just an escapist romance, but also a serious rumination on the effect of long-term micro-aggressions on a person's feelings of self-worth, and how a person can become trapped in abusive situations seemingly without the backbone to do anything about it. At one point in the book, Jimenez used a wonderfully apt tsunami analogy to describe this process of entrapment.
I loved, loved the character of Daniel. He's surely one to add to the list of book boyfriends. While at times, I got frustrated with Alexis and her inability to stand up to her family, I realise that it often takes a long time and effort to break free from an abusive situation, especially after a lifetime of conditioning.

One of the best I’ve listened to in a long time
I wouldn’t have assumed the lessons/ideas presented in this fantastic book from the cover. I’m so glad I listened!
I love this author and I think this is her best yet. Also helped that such amazing narrators were chosen. Plot, characters, development, humour, sadness, depth. Everything 🙌👏❤️
