Summary

Falling in love wasn't part of the plan in this lesbian romance from best-selling author Jae.

Susanne Wolff isn't thrilled when her mother sends her all the way across the country to Freiburg to save her uncle's stationery store from bankruptcy. Freiburg is too provincial for her taste, and besides, pen and paper are outdated anyway.

Anja Lamm, Paper Love's only full-time employee, takes an instant dislike to the arrogant, digital-loving snob who's supposed to be her temporary boss.

But thanks to a meddling cat, a business trip to a stationery fair, and an armada of origami boats, Anja soon starts to see beneath Susanne's aloof exterior, and Susanne discovers how sexy pens and notebooks can be - at least when Anja handles them.

As the end of Susanne's three-month stay approaches, will she stick to her plan to leave, or will she open her heart to more than just paper love?

 Contains mature themes.

unusual theme

I have listened to some of jae's books previously and always enjoyed them. I struggled to remain interested and engaged with this one however. I found it hard to connect with the characters despite great narration.

I Loved Paper Love 😍

Paper Love is a workplace romance by Jae.
Susanne arrives from across the country to help save the family business, a stationary shop owned by her uncle. She is used to a busy city life as a businesswoman. In contrast, Anja enjoys a slower pace of life. Susanne and Anja take an instant dislike to each other after a misunderstanding during their introduction. As a self-confessed stationery addict, I easily bonded with Anja’s character. With a persistent feline, a business trip to a stationery fair, and many chances for the characters to bond, will Susanne open up her heart and notice the sweet Anja?

Additionally, I loved reading about the quirky German city of Freiburg. It was interesting learning about the little Bächle canals and local superstitions. I feel like I want to visit there now!

Great performance by Abby Craden

Read characterfully and was most enjoyable the story was not as convincing as other books by Jae. But I still think Jae is a top writer of lesbian fiction and Abby Craden gives brilliant performances.

A sweet story shame about the narration

It is lovely to listen to a story set in Germany and it made me want to visit Freiburg. The story itself is lovely too, Jae brings very sweet touches to it and the characters would be great friends to have. Sadly thought, Abby Craden gets the voice of Anja very wrong. She makes her sound knowing and quite hard, not the sweet natured stationery geek that she is, and this spoiled the whole audiobook quite considerably for me.

Really enjoyable

Very enjoyable listen with sweet characters, a nice pace to the book, and best of all no angst.

Good book and really good audiobook

I enjoyed the Kindle book engaging characters and story. No great drama or sudden plot twists just a good romance and a desire to visit Frieburg.
Saved the audiobook until I had finished the Kindle edition as in mho you do not want to interrupt an Abby Craden performance to whispersynk.

Funny and cute with lots of stationary and a cat!

This is a very slow burn opposites attract, workplace romance set in Freiburg. I personally loved the gentle pace with which Jae brings Anja and Susanne together. The city of Freiburg and German culture come to life on the page. Jae’s attention to the smallest details creates a warm, funny and gentle love story which left me feeling happy and hopeful. Abby Craden’s narration is flawless as always.
