About this listen

Gloria Morris is a respected private detective with an explosive sense of honor who cherishes frisky ladies, reads Poe and Twain, believes in justice, and kicks a lot of ass. Her investigation into the disappearance of a popular and notorious seductress, whose pervasive presence affects the lives of two compelling women, takes her to San Francisco’s sexual underground and the discovery of treasonous political intrigue.

She is assisted by the missing woman’s roommate and lover, Clarissa, and together, they engage in a cat-and-mouse scenario with a powerful femme fatale, who is Gloria’s chief suspect.

It turns out that searching for the missing beauty is only one of the problems they encounter. During the course of her investigation, Gloria meets an astonishing lady and begins a life-changing romance. But will this new relationship benefit her work...or deliver her to danger?

Not My Genre & Not Likely To Be

I was given access to this audiobook on the understanding that I would give an honest review.

This is not my sub-genre, even though Murder/Mystery is. Unfortunately this doesn’t establish itself as either a Mystery novel or, what I would imagine an outright explicit novel would be like.

The plot is a good one, a missing person with a very hidden social life and an anxious housemate.
A PI who works exclusively for a rich Attorney.
The city of San Francisco!

I wouldn’t outrightly say that the sex was gratuitous because, for some reason, that’s the way the PI conducts her investigations! It works for her, but it does then make most of the characters involved lack depth and therefore are unrelateable.

To be honest, the story comes across as a tale about two disparate sets of high functioning psychopaths! Nothing is satisfactorily resolved and there are a series of abrupt endings! As a reader, you’re left bereft.

The lead, Gloria, is a strong Alpha Female and her way of dealing with troublesome men is impressive and largely credible. However she does leave loose ends, which are not satisfactorily resolved.

Other unresolved matters - without disclosing the plot - involve the body count, a highly incredulous romance, an out of the blue finale character resolution and a conspicuous absence of key characters!

With the right treatment, this could have been a really enjoyable and intriguing narrative but, it seems to just be a vehicle to showcase a female lothario!

I didn’t dislike the tale, I just feel that it could have been presented far better than it was.

The narrator did a good job with a poor script.
