Summary

Sometimes, knowing the future is not enough.... For more than a millennium, the Oracle of Delphi guided kings and conquerors with stunningly accurate visions of the future. But, with the rise of a new God, the Oracle faded from memory. Now, the power of the Oracle is about change the world once more.

While excavating a previously uncharted passage beneath the ancient city of Teotihuacan, archaeologist Jade Ihara makes a startling discovery: enormous stone spheres, arranged to resemble a model of the solar system, slowly orbiting a golden sun. Even more fantastic, when Jade attempts to move one of the spheres, she catches a glimpse of the future...a premonition that will save her life and launch her into a desperate race to unlock the mysterious secret of the oracular orbs. Jade is accompanied by her old friend, former Navy SEAL Pete "Professor" Chapman, and pursued by a relentless secret society intent on burying the secret of the Oracle forever.

Return to the world of the Dane Maddock Adventures in the first book of a thrilling new series, as Jade crosses the globe in pursuit of the secret of the Oracle.

Indiana Jones Meets Tomb Raider

This is another book in the Dane Maddock series of books (though this book in particular doesn't actually have Maddock). It's a fast-paced archeological adventure that lovers of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider will love.

The description does a pretty good job for this book. The archeological find of the century when a discovery is made underneath the ancient Aztec city in Mexico. A scale model of the solar system lies still functioning by means that can't be readily explained. It is eventually deduced that this device and others like it may be related to other similar devices all over the world that have been used to predict the future.
Unfortunately, a secret and powerful organization infiltrated the archeological team and is aware of the discovery... A discovery they would rather destroy than be made common knowledge...

Jeffery Kafer is one of my favorite narrators. His performance is excellent, as usual.

I was voluntarily provided a free copy of this audiobook by the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

Science geeks, arise!

The archaeologist, the physicist, and the ex-SEAL work together against the misguided and vengeful former colleague, several very wealthy and greedy villains and their mercenaries, an artifact thief and more to find the truth about a side effect of dark matter. Since the authors are David Wood and Sean Ellis, you can bet the farm that there is an abundance of action, adventure, unexpected plot twists, and lots of verifiable learning opportunities. See publisher's blurb for more clues.
I read the audio version of this one, and still like Jeffrey Kafer's no nonsense delivery and vocal range.

Narration killed a good story.

The monotone voice put me to sleep and gave no life to the characters. Ruined a pretty good story.

High Octane Adventure!

I loved how this story combined the mythology and history of Oracle of Delphi, with the supernatural element of "black matter" making this an archaeological thriller with a supernatural twist.

This story was fast paced with non stop action that kept me engaged from first to the last chapter. I really liked the characters Jade, and Pete who is also know as the "Professor." I thought they worked well together, and would not hesitate to save each other.

With Jeffrey's performance, I found myself laughing at the sarcasm, and getting tense during the "dire" scenes. I've listened to other books narrated by Jeffrey and he excels at delivering sarcasm and his deep voice is great for really intense scenes.

Awesome story and performance! I look forward to more stories in this series.

An enjoyable archaeological thriller

I've not read anything by Wood before, but I enjoy an archaeology thriller. The writing started off very cool and interesting; the characters were introduced well. The complex plot line was introduced organically and didn't feel like a data dump on the reader. However, the story started to lose me a bit with the dark matter stuff. Not because it was complicated, but because it started to sound unrealistic.

I thought Jeffrey Kafer did a good job narrating. His pacing was good and he put just enough inflection into it to make the story interesting.

Fast, action packed, mysterious forces!

Oracle
Jade Ihara Adventures Book 1
By: David Wood, Sean Ellis
Narrated by: Jeffrey Kafer
This is a free Audible I received from freeaudiblecodes and the review is voluntary.
This book reminded me of a Lara Croft book. There are mysterious orbs that, when touched, show possible futures. Jade and the Professor are almost killed several times while just investigating sites or trying to get information. There are organizations that want to keep the artifacts secret and some want to keep them for themselves.
It's a wild ride across the world chasing clues and being chased. The science too is amazing. Dark matter, theoretically physics, time warping, and more! Such fun!
Between the action, the adventure, the mysterious artifacts, well, to me it added up to a big book of fun!
I felt it was like another version of Tomb Raider but with a smarter Lara and she has a intelligent sidekick, the Professor.
Oracle is a fast-paced, action, adventure book with mysterious forces at play! Great characters and terrific narration!

Action action, action

Oracle is a cross between an Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, & National Treasure movie; all have smart people after the thrill thrall of an ancient archeological object at great risk of their personal wellbeing. The team searches for a sphere thought to provide a remarkable gift. The characters are believable and interesting. Looking forward to the next! Indiana Jade and the Oracle of Delphi...

Oracle (Jade Ihara Adventures Book 1) by David Wood & Sean Ellis and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer is for those who love have a love of adventure and science. 4 stars for story. 5 stars for narration.

Jade and her associates stumble upon the Oracle of Delphi resulting in a cat and mouse game as everyone wants it for their own reasons. The summary does a great job, but other things to expect: betrayal, threats, cult, religious element (not preachy), Greek mythology, rich villains, knowledge, a love interest, and more. Chances are you will learn something while listening to this adventure. The only bad? Sometimes it was a little slow going and sometimes Jade was not easy to connect with. When it picked up the pace, it really picked up the pace. I found it engaging enough to want to check out the next book, but wonder if I should be reading the Dane Maddox series first so I don’t miss out on those connections/info that is referenced per other reviews.
“The threat you saw was rarely the one that killed you.”

The narrator, Jeffrey Kafer, did a good job. No complaints.

Overall I recommend, especially if you’re looking for something to appeal to your inner nerd.

Loved it!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a fantastic book. I really enjoyed the cast of characters and fast-paced adventure in this story. It has a Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones but in the Fringe universe feel to it. It was really well narrated and enjoyable. I'm definitely going on to the next book.

Oracle

A good, fast paced listen narrated nicely by Jeffrey Kafer. Jade is an archeologist.A discovery beneath a temple brings odd domes to light. The Oracle at Delphi is making a comeback.I was given this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.
