Summary
Only one more show and heavy metal guitarist Spencer Hesston can finally quit Rot in Hell. No more touring, no more fighting, and no more unwanted advances from the lead singer's girlfriend. But instead of waking up the next day in their Midwestern hometown, the band finds themselves dazed and confused in an abandoned settlement in the middle of the desert, with no idea of how they got there.
Things are done a little differently out here: The trees have perverse urges, the spiders have human fingers, and every time they step outside the town transforms into a new hellish nightmare.

Jaw-to-the-floor scary goodness
Dear horror fans and metalheads rejoice as Wesley Southard's 'One for the road' is the ultimate metal thrashing madness in the form of a book.
I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Wesley Southard's audiobook 'One for the road' for review and was totally blown away by it.
The story follows the members of the metal group 'Rot in Hell' and centers around the guitarist Spencer Hesston. It's the night of their final tour show and Spencer, tired of touring, drama and fights, has already taken the decision of quitting the band.
As they enter their tour bus for the ride back home little do they know that they got on board for a hell ride.
Because instead of waking up in their hometown, they find themselves in an absolute hellish situation in an abandoned settlement in the middle of the desert, with no idea of how they got there.
What they experience there, is stuff straight out of the worst nightmare where an escape seems like an impossibility.
Will they find their way out or will this hell on earth situation consume them?
This one ladies and gentlemen has all the right elements to electrify your spooky season.
The narrator of the book is phenomenal and does a fantastic job bringing this hellish nightmare of a trip to life.
The author, I suspect a metalhead (🖤🤘) , puts his well penned characters (I totally loved the backstory of the main character) in an impossible to escape nightmare by evoking creatures and scenes straight out of an Hieronymus Bosch painting and blends a cinematic experience of a book in the likes of Lost Highway, Silent Hill, Jacob's Ladder and errr.. Rock Star.
There is enough mystery to keep you guessing what's next and enough gore to keep your jaw down on the floor.
A fast paced horror adventure that will definitely keep you pinned down on your seat listening/reading from the opening scene until the very last sentence.
Great writing and a throughout wonderful horror novella guaranteed to creep you out. No wonder why it won the 2020 Splatterpunk Award for Best Novella.
