Summary

One Good Thing is the new heartwarming, hilarious alternative love story, from author Alexandra Potter.

In life, nothing is certain. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something can happen to change the course of everything....

Liv Brooks is still in shock. Newly divorced and facing an uncertain future, she impulsively swaps her London Life for the sweeping hills of the Yorkshire Dales, determined to make a fresh start. But fresh starts are harder than they look and feeling lost and lonely, she decides to adopt Harry, an old dog from the local shelter, to keep her company.

But Liv soon discovers she isn’t the only one in need of a new beginning. On their daily walks around the village, they meet Valentine, an old man who suffers from loneliness who sits by the window and Stanley, a little boy who is scared of everyone, hides behind the garden gate and Maya, a teenager who is angry at everyone and everything. But slowly things start to change....

Utterly relatable, hilarious and heartbreakingly honest, this is a novel about friendship, finding happiness and living the life unexpected. And how when everything falls apart, all you need is one good thing to turn your life around and make it worth living again.

Loved it!

…immediately searches for more by Alexandra Potter…

A really feel good story, relatable but not patronising or overly fluffy. And with a dog as the hero, what more is there to wabt.

Once again such beautiful and relatable characters, brought to life by the amazing Alexandra potter.
Such warmth from her fabulous ability to make us fall in love with each character.

Twists and turns and unexpected plots!

I, like many I am sure, wanted to up sticks and move to the village so I could share the feeling of community!

Excellent ! And highly recommended!

Brilliant read

Absolutely inspiring and uplifting. Those who have dogs will just get it. Those who don’t will get a dog! Makes you laugh, cry and take a good long look at life. For some of us it may be life hanging. Like Harry.

Enchanting

The narration was really wonderful by Margaret Cabourn-Smith. She captured each moment. Loved how Liv managed to struggle on after a painful divorce in an entirely new place. I was wishing her on. Then when she rescued a dog from the rescue centre and named him Harry. It's as if a magic surrounded her because of Harry. I won't tell you any more. Wait till you meet Valentin, Ben and son Stanley. You will love this wonderful book. Highly recommend this book

Ok

The book was slow to lift off and got better towards the end. The Yorkshire accents were not good and probably best left in the readers own accent.

Loved it

A story about living. Different peoples lives. Set in a beautiful Yorkshire village. Its a gentle story and I gained immensely from listening to it as it’s helped me look at life differently and have more acceptance after a very tough year. Inspiring I would highly recommend.

Harry!

Having Harry has a running theme throughout this book was so lovely. Although the book itself is a bit of a cliché at times, having Harry was a pleasant twist. Overall an easy and feel good book, although one part in particular made me shed a tear. Great if you want something light and likeable.

Beautiful, heartwarming and funny

I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to do so after finishing this book.

I was in a bit of a book slump when I selected this book and this listen definitely got me out of it.

The characters, narration, sentiment and humor was all there.

It was heartwarming, funny and sad but mostly a beautiful listen.

I completely recommend you spend that credit and listen to this !

Great Read!

I couldn’t wait to get the next audible from this author once I read her amusing Confession of a 40 Something F*%# Up. I have to admit though, this book, although with similarities, was more challenging for me to get into. It was indeed a slow start for me, however, I am so glad I persevered because it was well worth it. The ending was surprising and satisfying; and like before, I can’t wait to listen to the next Audible from Alexandra Potter. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Great relatable read

I loved this story. The narrators allowed for an easy listen. The story was different, following several different people as they grow, change and their lives become intertwined with one another. There were great lessons and insight, also a lot of witty comments that made me laugh. I loved how none of the storylines were rushed as they took part over weeks and months instead of in a whirlwind like many books. It was easy to fall in love with the characters. One of the better books I’ve read lately.

A story of finding yourself all over again!

Just when you think all is lost, this is a story of finding yourself all over again! Sometimes we need just one good thing. I love Alexander’s writing and characters which draws the reader in and you become part of their lives. I fell in love with her first book and couldn’t wait for this one. One Good Thing is a story that is much needed during these times.
