Summary
When Lauren takes a photo of a stranger on a beach and shares it online, she has no idea what will come of that single click.
Her daughters are surprised that she posted a photo without consent, but it’s only when she starts to get anonymous messages about the woman on the beach that she deletes the photo. It’s too little too late, and the messages escalate, prompting Lauren to confess to the woman. The woman has her own dark story, one that might explain the messages, but Lauren isn’t convinced. Then her ex-husband begins to harass her, telling her she shares too much online and brought this on herself.
She’s also dealing with other problems. A difficult client at work starts to show up in places he shouldn’t be. Her younger daughter is behaving out of character and Lauren can’t work out what’s wrong. And the cracks are literally beginning to show in her old South Dublin house, mirroring the cracks in her carefully curated life.
Meanwhile, the messages from the internet troll become more personal and more vindictive. Her friends feel she should stand up to her stalker, but Lauren isn’t so sure. And then she makes one small mistake that brings everything tumbling down.

Enjoyable story but bad narration
The storyline was very good but the narration was very bad- pronunciation was off with many Irish place names and words -“aubergine “ , “dun Laoighre”, “Dart” etc. plus Irish accents were very leprechaun-like. Would have been better to narrate without accents and to check pronunciation in place names etc. could have narrated it better myself!!

Great book diabolical narration
thus was like torture. I did make it to the end because I was determined but the narration was so bad. American, monotone, irritating, weird inflections. can't say enough bad things about narration.

Change the narrator
Enjoyable story from a great author, but narrator is so off putting it was hard to enjoy. If characters are Irish please get an Irish narrator or someone who has a passing accent and can properly pronounce Irish words, phrases and place names. It’s totally distracting and takes from the enjoyment of the book so much.

Should have taken notice of the negative comments
What terrible narration! Could hardly bear to listen to it. It’s the second book by Andrea Mara ruined by awful narrators. What a shame

Narrator RUINED the story
I have no idea where you found the narrator but you should have left her there.
The woman was woeful and robotic. She actually spelt out DART, when speaking about the rail system, and butchered Gardaí, aubergine and several other words. Serious “far and away” accent vibes.
My ears are bleeding.

Plot and book were great. Reading was robotic
Wish I had read this book instead of listening too it. Was read like a robot like one of those automated reading programmes on a PC, mispronunciations of place names etc really annoyed me. Plot and book was very good. Such a shame.

Listen to reviews before buying
Totally agree with majority of reviews re the narrator. Would have sent it back had the story not been as good. Very distracting.

Just OK
Andrea Mara is a wonderful author. I’m a fan of her work. The narration here is abysmal. Sounded like AI. Needed an Irish person to narrate. Attempts at accents were woeful - as were place names, and general intonation and flow of text. Good story, really let down by poor choice of narration.

Excellent story line
But appalling narration, an irritating voice that isn’t Irish despite an Irish based novel.
Stick with the story line & consider reading an Andrea Mara novel instead of listening

Great story so many twists
Loved the story but the narrator needs to learn how to pronounce the names of places and characters.
