Katherine Nichols knew she’d had too many drinks, but they were only going a short distance. “There’s no traffic anyway,” Eve had pointed out. And they'd had such a great night out, the two of them. Daniel is everything I ever dreamed of. A handsome, successful doctor who truly swept me off my feet. I can’t wait to get back from our honeymoon and begin our new lives together. Except, rather than taking us back to our flat, Daniel announces we are moving to a new house in a different city. And when we arrive, the house is fully furnished, with plates in the cupboard, pictures on the walls and new clothes in my closet. It’s like someone already lives here. It seems a bit strange. But I know Daniel is just trying to make sure our new life is perfect, right from the start.

Just four words were printed in the card. He doesn’t love you. I’ve been dreaming about this day - marrying Adam, my childhood sweetheart, who I’ve loved for 18 years. I didn’t realize the perfect day would turn into the perfect nightmare. I was so excited to send out the wedding invitations, carefully writing everyone’s names on thick cream paper in beautiful cursive script. I had no idea I was inviting someone to destroy our marriage.

Gripping!

Summary
An absolutely gripping psychological thriller
When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair.
Most women would fall to their knees in tears and throw him out of the house - but I just can't bring myself to do it.
Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I will make him see that I'm still the woman he married; attractive, successful, the glue that holds our perfect family together. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own, something that would destroy everything I've already sacrificed so much for.
But when the police arrive at my door asking questions about Alex's death that I can't answer, and threatening text messages start appearing on my phone, I know that someone close has been watching me very carefully.

I loved that the main character, Anna, was a mess but deeply interesting, smart but also fallible - this doesn’t go where you think it’s going, and I loved the path it took to get there.

well i didnt expect that!!!
this story is very clever - you think you are going one place and end up in a completely different one. I cant say I enjoyed listening because I disliked Anna so much, she just made the most stupid decisions, got lots of headaches and accidently let things slip that got her into even more trouble (hence only given it 4 stars). But that is credit to the author that she managed to evoke such strong feelings in me. I kept listening until the end cos i had to find out what happened, and it was a very satisfying ending - a really good story, I do recommend it. Good narration too.

Great, if unbelievable, read.
I did enjoy this book but like others I felt the ending was rushed and unbelievable. Not a clever twist, but a rather clumsy and over the top explosion that was full of holes. I like an ending to tie up any loose ends, this left so many questions and in my view was not in any way believable. Anna was very very annoying, and unbelievably stupid, which ,again like others said, flew in the face of her supposed intellect. Some of her antics were just preposterously idiotic. However, I did keep listening and found the book funny in places, gripping and exciting. My first book by this author and I would read another.

Frustrating but definitely worth a credit !
Frustrating because I spent so much of the book annoyed that a college associate maths professor could do so many dumb things ! Including how she continually questions why it’s necessary to understand how you arrive at a mathematical solution, and that it’s not enough to show the solution itself. We learnt this basic principle in UK maths class aged 10, so I don’t find it credible that this principle is a surprise to a college maths professor. If the main character had been better researched and showed occasional signs of intelligence, I’d have rated the book as a 5.
Definitely worth listening as the plot is very clever, in contrast to it’s mostly ditsy heroine. Great performance too.

Naive Crying Neurotic Idiot!
No spoilers. The main character was truly annoying with the rentless babbling squamish pathetic behavior.
2 stars because initially and in the middle of the book the plot was thickening for what i hoped would be an interesting delight.
There is a very late twist but by this time I had disengaged. It had good potential but failed.
I would skip it and let someone else summarize it for me in order to save a credit and time.

NO SPOILERS!! I finished this book in one sitting. I just couldn’t stop. The situations in the story are different and tense. I found myself yelling out loud over some of the protagonists choices and it entertained me from beginning to end.

Enjoyable Book
I really enjoyed listening to this book. You can tell that the author is not from the US even though that is where the book is set. I'm not trying to be critical. It's just interesting to find the subtle differences in language. We don't say "Biro" for "pen." We don't revise, we study. "Lost the plot" isn't a phrase I've ever heard here, although I like it and I may start using it myself. We move around instead of moving about. We aren't in the habit of kissing on the cheek, especially if it's someone you just met. But even among best friends, it's usually just a hug. We generally don't end text messages with X's for kisses and we don't tap the side of our nose. Again, not being critical of the book, but if you really want it to sound like it's authentic, there you go. I thought this book was interesting and well written and I will be looking for others by this author.

Outstanding. Both riveting and relaxing.
An excellent story written to perfection. The narrator was outstanding. I’m listening to it for the second time which allows me to put things together that I missed the first time around. I rarely listen to a book a second time, and never immediately after the first listening. True to the title, it does include adult situations. They were very well done. The main characters are endearing. The constant repetitive use of a few terms such as “team player,” would normally irritate me, but was done so well that it enhanced the story for me. As others have mentioned, the use of British terms surprised me, as the narrator was clearly an American with perfect American English pronunciation vs British English. A minor blemish. It’s a great nighttime listen, as the narrators even tone was a great sleep aid for me. At the same time, the narrator also made the Audible riveting to listen too. That contradiction is difficult for any narrator, but was done perfectly.
