Summary

It's a life-changing trip. Take it! John Ahern had a high-flying job, big house, loving wife and two great kids. But if this was success, why did he sense he was failing as a husband and father? So John did something insane. He quit the corporate world and bought a busted-up camper-van online to chase an improbable dream: a year travelling together as a family...on the road with kids.

From the North Pole to Africa's highest peaks, John and his family get mugged by monkeys, charmed by snake handlers, and challenged by life without phone and email. Along the way John creates a life less ordinary and evolves into a connected partner and Dad. On the Road with Kids is a funny, messy and inspiring adventure all families will love.

Outstanding.

I loved this book and didn't want it to end. I laughed out loud so many times, it's a true gem and recommend it highly. I certainly have taken on board some of the important things the author experienced and that's family being number one. I loved listening to the struggles of living in the road and all the wonderful experiences the author and his family had together. I will differently listen to this one again. Go forth and purchase immediately.

Inspiring

Absolutely loved it! A very candid account of what it it must be like to spend so much time with family and how inspiring to see it flourish in the way it did.

Absolutely LOVED this!

Had me in laugh-out-loud stitches from the start. Brilliantly written and narrated. A family with *family* at their heart. A journey of adventure - both physical and transformational. I loved witnessing the seismic shifts within the author, in terms of his view of and approach to life and what he truly holds dear. His guiding values very much align with mine: family, freedom and simplicity. Thank you for sharing your story.

Gets you thinking

There has to be more to life and this book shows an alternative. Change is hard especially when against the herd mentality this book shows this warts and all.

less about the impact of kids than expected

If you could sum up On the Road with Kids in three words, what would they be?

drinking swearing and throwing caution to the wind!?

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

most: touched on travelling with children
least: repetitive themes and phrases

Did Michael Veitch do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

I think people in the book were clear.

Any additional comments?

Encouraging for people seriously looking at travel. Helpful costing information and teaches about attitude to life.

I want to quit my job and sell my house

But my wife refuses to. So i may need to divorce after reading this book. What a weird review! But its the feeling you get from this amazingly well written story about family, life, and experience. We will probably just visit Croatia instead of divorce however. I am from Norway and i must admit i laughed at the puny Australians terrified of hospitals and the wild countryside here. Im very glad things changed over the 12 months and i was pleased to be invited along the way through the book. Thank you for writing this.
