Summary
For 18 years, Jude Farraday has put her children’s needs above her own, and it shows - her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill moves into their small, close-knit community, no one is more welcoming than Jude. Lexi, a former foster child with a dark past, quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable.
Jude does everything to keep her kids on track for college and out of harm’s way. It has always been easy - until senior year of high school. Suddenly she is at a loss. Nothing feels safe anymore; every time Mia and Zach leave the house, she worries about them. On a hot summer’s night her worst fears are realized. One decision will change the course of their lives. In the blink of an eye, the Farraday family will be torn apart and Lexi will lose everything. In the years that follow, each must face the consequences of that single night and find a way to forget... or the courage to forgive.Vivid, universal, and emotionally complex, Night Road raises profound questions about motherhood, identity, love, and forgiveness. It is a luminous, heartbreaking novel that captures both the exquisite pain of loss and the stunning power of hope. This is Kristin Hannah at her very best, telling an unforgettable story about the longing for family, the resilience of the human heart, and the courage it takes to forgive the people we love.

So moving. So beautiful.
A very thoughtful book. Emotional and enriching. The main characters are well described and their feelings and thought processes superbly analysed.

A bit predictably all ends well for my taste
Not as good as The Great Alone, the only other book I’ve had from this author, this one has the emotional content, but not the twists and thriller element or originality of that one. I found it a bit too unrealistically “happy ending” which just made it implausible, although part way through is probably have said different. By the end I’m ready to listen to a full on thriller or post apocalyptic thriller to get rid of the saccharin taste ha ha, that’s how it ended for me but generally better than that I guess. Took far too long to go through all the teen angst stuff to get to the event you knew was coming, and some of the voices of the teens (e.g. Mia) were annoying, to an English ear anyway! Very well written in the section immediately after “the event”, I was close to bursting into tears at that point. But it was totally unbelievable how it all ended up; if only life was really like that!

Stick with it
The first third of the book was very teenage oriented, I thought I was listening to a book for young adults. I stopped for a few weeks, but then decided to give it another go. It was worth it, the remaining two thirds are more engaging for adults and I really enjoyed.

Dull Road
it may be me. but I found this dull. and I think it was the narrator. her voices for one of the younger main characters made her seem dim and sooooo naive. A Very simple story, fairly predictable. I did find it emotional and was shocked once in regards to the storyline. I think this is one to read...not listen to.
