About this listen
"Of all the variously talented women SOE sent to France, Nancy Wake was perhaps the most formidable." - Sebastian Faulks
This is the incredible true story of the greatest spy you’ve never heard of - as told to the author by the woman herself.
At the outbreak of World War Two, Nancy Wake’s glamorous life in the South of France seemed far removed from the fighting. But when her husband was called up for military service, Nancy felt she had just as much of a duty to fight for freedom. By 1943, her fearless undercover work even in the face of personal tragedy had earned her a place on the Gestapo’s "most wanted" list.
Mixing armed combat with a taste for high living, Nancy frustrated the Nazis at every turn - whether she was smuggling food and messages as part of the underground Resistance or being parachuted into the heart of the war to lead a 7,000-strong band of Resistance fighters.
The extraordinary courage of this unequalled woman changed the course of the war, and Russell Braddon’s vividly realised biography brings her incredible story to life.

A story that should never be forgotten
A brilliant recap of resistance work in France and the UK during the war. Didn't know much about this part of the war and glad that I do now. People and stories that should be heard and never forgotten. Makes you appreciate what we have today much more. Thank you.

We have a job to do!
What a fantastic book of bravery and humility. This is worth a read for those of you who enjoy hearing the real “matter of fact” stories about WW2.
The fact that Nancy survived so much and contributed so greatly to the effort for the Allies is enough to make me thankful that I listened to this audiobook.
Well worth a read/ listen.

A truly amazing story.
Superb storytelling of the life of an amazing woman who was trained as a secret agent and who lived and fought with French resistance during world war two and helped hundreds of people back to safety.
She displayed outstanding courage and
survived the war.

Not the best Nancy Wake story
I have listened to a number of Nancy Wake stories and this was my least favourite. The narrator was truly awful whether with the Australian accent or the Inspector Clouseau faux French.
