About this listen
When a handsome WWII, American pilot called Teddy stepped into the local corner shop in search of candy, sweet and unassuming Jenny’s world went from boring to breath-taking.
But with war threatening to put an end to their budding romance, time together became precious, forcing them to live for the moment.
Was she just another stupid girl who had got taken in by a good-looking GI?
1940’s Historical Romance with Heat.
Contains language and descriptive scenes that are only suitable for the over 18/adult listener.
This WW2 historical romance originally appeared in the Help Our Heroes Charity Anthology book in May 2018, which is now no longer available. When it was released, it was switched to dual perspective and extended. So, if you’ve already listened to it as a short, don’t skip the beginning. Re-listen from the start. It’s the perfect chance to get to know the characters a little better and find out what happened to this charismatic couple.

Romantic historical fiction
I absolutely loved this story. So well written, the characters and plot have been well thought out by the author and the narrator really brings the story to life, she added such an exciting element to the story. I enjoyed that this is set in the war years and it really transported me to Yorkshire in the 1940s. My heart went out to Jenny as she was entering into her womanhood during a war, learning how to be an independent and determined girl and follow her dreams. Following her love story with her beloved Teddy was full of romance. This was one of my favourite audiobooks yet!

A sweet story well told
This is so unlike the audiobooks I’ve listened to lately and it’s so good.
As the name suggests a G.I. meets a sweet English girl before being dragged away by his army unit. She’s devastated to find out that he’s gone but tries to get on with her life. She has a big fall out with her mother and moves away. Her life takes a couple of turns and a job advertisement gives her the opportunity of a lifetime.
This is a great story well written. I really enjoyed the characters and how the story developed. A well deserved 5 stars from me

Brilliant read and even better in Audio!
After previously reading and enjoying this story I couldn't wait to listen when it came out in Audio and boy was i in for a treat!
The Narrator manages to capture Jenny and Teddy and beings them to life so well.
Listening to the journey of Yorkshire Jenny and American Teddy is great.. they don't have an easy journey but when they are together nothing else seems to matter and the world just drifts away.
Would recommend this for everyone.. and TL Wainwright you've done amazing with this story.

Fantastic audio book
I absolutely loved this audiobook! I think it is probably one of the best that I have listened to so far. The narrator was brilliant, she really brought the story to life. The story was excellent, I love historical romance but usually in the early 1900’s so this was more modern for me but I loved it. The characters were brilliant, Jenny was a brilliant female lead, she made me laugh so many times. The time went so fast whilst listening because I was so engrossed in the story. I would highly recommend this audio book I thought it was absolutely brilliant!

A sweet read
Loved listening to this story of Jenny and Teddy spread Over 5 years. Rookie narrated it beautifully.
Just how I expect a lot of love stories happened during WW2. Seriously wanted to slap Jenny’s mother though. A great story with lots of twists keeping you guessing if they will find their HEA

An emotional story
My Sweet GI Audio Book by T.L. Wainwright is a brilliant historical romance that has such an attention to detail. I loved listening to this book right from the start. The narrator has been picked perfectly for this book. They really captured the accents and the areas so well. Being from the area myself it really helped me picture everything in so much more detail and I felt like I was right there with the main character at all times.
I thought the story was good as well. It was more emotional than I expected it to be and there were a few times that I could have cried for Jenny. Her journey was such a difficult one and yet she was determined to do the best that she could. My only criticism about this book would be that the revelation toward the end seemed a bit far fetched. It feel like the author could have written it in a way that still achieved their goal but also made a little more sense. However this didn’t take away too much from how much I enjoyed this book.

🥰 WOW 🥰
This book was a first for me in a few ways. This was my first book with this author, narrator, and my first historical romance. The blurb had my interest right away, but it was even better than I imagined.
There were definitely some sad parts to the story, but they were worth it for the final outcome. Rooke knocked it out of the park with the narration. She did a great representing Teddy and Jenny. I love when a narrator can do two different voices really well.
If you love romance at all you need to BUY this. There are a few very descriptive sex scenes 🔥🔥(which the author did an amazing job at writing by the way). In my opinion a good romance needs some steam.
I was given this free review copy audiobook from audiobooks unleashed at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sweet, heartfelt and more than a love story.
I absolutely loved this audiobook and the ending was perfect.
My sweet GI is set during World War Two in England. Jenny is a nice girl who lives under the scrutiny of her mother. When Teddy an American soldier comes to town they instantly share a connection. It pushes Jenny to want more than a life her mother wants for her. This is set in war time so love isn’t so easy. Especially between an English girl and an American soldier. Can these two find a happy ever after?
This book is more than the war but I don’t want to give anything away. This is Jenny’s story through the years.
Loved it.
