About this listen

In the small mountain town of Amorea, it's stretching toward autumn of 1954. The memories of a world at war are fading in the face of a prosperous future. Doors are left unlocked at night, and neighbors are always there to give each other a helping hand.

The people here know certain things as fact:

Amorea is the best little town there is.

The only good commie is a dead commie.

The Women's Club of Amorea runs the town with an immaculately gloved fist.

And bookstore owner Mike Frazier loves that boy down at the diner, Sean Mellgard. Why they haven't gotten their acts together is anybody's guess. It may be the world's longest courtship, but no one can deny the way they look at each other.

Slow and steady wins the race, or so they say.

But something's wrong with Mike. He hears voices in his house late at night. There are shadows crawling along the walls and great clouds of birds overhead that only he can see.

Something's happening in Amorea. And Mike will do whatever he can to keep the man he loves.

Interesting concept / nice romance!

If you could sum up Murmuration in three words, what would they be?

Good book - took a while to work out what was going on as the start was very odd - someone appears next to a town with no memory nor idea how he got there... but good. A good listen! Contains scientists spouting nonsense but I liked the overall idea.

Liked the narration, not sure about the story...

I'm in a bit of a quandary. Kirt did a great job with the narration [loved all the different voices] but for me, the story didn't flow smoothly....one minute you were in Mike's head, and then boom...you were in Greg's. This was a classic mind-f**k [scuse my language] of a story, with an unconventional romance, and I liked the analogy of the starlings and this story being controlled chaos. Hands up, I was completely lost until I finally understood what was going on...rather like Homer Simpson [but without the drool of course]...

This is a complex, highly imaginative and intense story...full concentration needed, although entirely believable IMHO. Who knows whether it has already happened in RL?? I can only say that unlike Wolfsong which I LOVED, I only liked this one. I certainly wasn't expecting that shocker at the end though....it went against everything we 'thought' we knew about Mike Frazier, which I suppose was TJ's point. You can never know a person entirely, no matter how much you think you do. 4 stars.

Throughly enjoyed this book...

... Listened over two nights in work. Very nice love story. If your familiar with TJ Klune then this book is more like "Into This River I Drown" than some of the more comedy books. Has a bit of a Patrick Ness' "More Than This" feel to it
Would highly recommend.

Had me guessing all the way through!

A brilliantly conceived and written book, expertly narrated. I cannot think about the imagination that conceived this intricate story that had me wondering all the way through how it would play out. I second guessed myself and the author but of course he did it total justice. I had no idea until the last few minutes. This is so different to other books by the author but it’s still instantly recognisable as his work.

Brought the voices alive

TJ Klune’s writing is as phenomenal as always. Thank you to Kirt Graves for such great narration; voice choice was spot on and loved all the tiny inflections that brought to life the characters I had imagine. A fabulous read and obsessive listen.

Snails Pace

I love a long story to listen to over the course of a week or so.. but this is told at such a slow pace with infinite detail about the slightest thing that I gave up. I thought there would be a story.. but on and on it goes describing everything... for example, an oscillating fan slowly turns from left to right, then from right to left... I know what an oscillating fan does. And its like that for absolutely everything!

could it get any more boring!!

there is no way this is written by the same person that penned bear, otter and the kid. or the lightni g struck heart and there sequels..
nothing happens it just repeats over and over. it gets slightly interesting in the last chapter but fizzles to nothing in the end.. I realise the authors don't read these reviews as they don't really care about the people who buy there work, but really someone needs to tell him/her to be ashamed..
