About this listen

A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation starring June Whitfield as Miss Marple, the sharp-witted spinster sleuth.

In the sleepy little English country village of St Mary Mead, all is not as it seems. Under a seemingly peaceful exterior lurks intrigue, guilt, deception - and murder.

Colonel Protheroe, local magistrate and overbearing landowner, is the most detested man in the village. Everyone, even the vicar, wishes he were dead. And very soon he is - shot in the head in the vicar's own study.

A visiting artist confesses to the murder, but residents saw him elsewhere at the time the Colonel was shot. If he didn't do it, who did? Is he protecting the wife whom he loves? Faced with a surfeit of suspects, only the inscrutable Miss Marple can unravel the tangled web of clues. A trap set, and Miss Marple's theory is put to the test when the true killer is finally unmasked.

A well adapted Christie classic

Agatha Christie has always been well adapted for radio by the BBC, and this is no exception. Classic cast for a classic book. Whitfield is to radio Marple what Hickson was to TV Marple.

Superb dramatisation

I Thoroughly enjoyed this dramatisation of dear Agathas earlier novel. The actors do justice to the complexity of the characters and depth of plot.

Fantastic for boring car journeys- kids loved it not too gory!!

Enjoy !

Perfect!

First class dramatisation. A fabulous cast all round with June Whitfield perfect as the meddling but razor sharp Miss Marple. A host of characters in this one and so very well performed. Even the choice of interlude music is spot on.I loved it! A few hours of pure escapist bliss!

Absolutely Classic Agatha Christie

I adore Murder at The Vicarage it is true classic Christie in every way.
Murder fun & mystery rolled in one.

Miss Marple is at her best as the nosey old sleuth who gets it right
every time. So much going on in this production to pin to one scene.
It is all true delight. A full cast & excellent soundtrack to take you on the Agatha mystery tour.

I enjoy these audio full cast

Love Agatha

I loved the story line and the twists
Having full cast, audio stories , just takes you back into their world.
June Whitfield, is a wonderful Miss Marple, bringing her to life.
I have the whole series of the full cast versions and you can't beat them. I find myself, at times, listening again and again, taking me into their village life.
Excellent.!
