Summary

John Moffat stars as the great Belgian detective Hercule Poirot in seven more BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisations.

'Evil Under the Sun': on holiday in Devon, Poirot becomes embroiled in the murder of a glamorous American starlet.

'Sad Cypress': a poison pen letter begins a chain of events which is to end in tragedy.

'Murder in Mesopotamia': when death occurs at an archaeological site in the Iraqi desert, Poirot is on hand to dig for clues.

'Lord Edgware Dies': Lord Edgware is found brutally stabbed, his wife the prime suspect. But did she murder him?

'Hallowe'en Party': the sleuth investigates the death of a girl drowned in an apple-bobbing tub on All Hallows' Eve.

'Murder on the Links': summoned urgently to France, Poirot finds his wealthy client dead. Can he trace the killer?

'Five Little Pigs': a bride-to-be hires Poirot to solve a 16-year-old case and prove her mother innocent of murder.

These BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisations find Poirot pitting his 'little grey cells' against a variety of cunning criminals. Based on Agatha Christie's original novels, these superb adaptations feature a host of distinguished actors including Iain Glen, Fiona Fullerton, Stephanie Cole and Stephen Tompkinson.

Fantastic, but why not compiled in broadcast order?

Whilst you don’t need to listen to Agatha Christie’s ‘Poirot’ particularly in any set order, I do wonder why these two collections have been organised so randomly. Is there any reason to their order? It isn’t in book or broadcast order. The first set contain the better stories and are more recently dramatised.

[Book number - Year published] Name [Date broadcast by BBC]

Poirot’s Finest Cases:

[13 1936] The ABC Murders [BBC 2000]
[31 1953] After the Funeral [BBC 1999]
[17 1937] Death on the Nile [BBC 1997]
[04 1926] The Murder of Roger Ackroyd [BBC 1987]
[10 1934] Murder on the Orient Express [BBC 1992]
[01 1920] The Mysterious Affair at Styles [BBC 2005]
[08 1932] Peril at End House [BBC 2000]
[11 1935] Three Act Tragedy [BBC 2002]

More of Poirot’s Finest Cases:

[24 1941] Evil Under the Sun [BBC 1998]
[22 1940] Sad Cypress [BBC 1992]
[14 1936] Murder in Mesopotamia [BBC 1994]
[09 1933] Lord Edgware Dies [BBC 1992]
[39 1969] Hallowe’en Party [BBC 1992]
[02 1923] Murder on the Links [BBC 1990]
[25 1942] Five Little pigs [BBC 1994]

Expect there will be a third, and possibly a fourth, compilation as there are a further 10 Poirot stories dramatised by BBC Radio featuring John Moffatt.

[Anybody notice the incorrect spelling of John Moffatt’s name on the ‘More’ compilation?]

Not as good as the first collection

Exciting stories, full of twists and turns. However, this selection has more of the slightly ridiculous, overblown stories. It's well worth listening he to nonetheless, especially 5 little pigs, even if just to hear Poirot say 'wee wee wee all the way home' in a deadly serious tone.

All Great Performances

I just love these dramatisations - John Moffat on Radio is as good as David Suchet on tv when it comes to Poirot. These are just perfect to listen to when falling asleep/driving or my guilty pleasure of a long bath and putting one of these on :)
Worth the money!

Delightful

I have always loved listening to John Moffat as Hercule Poirot. I grew up listening to these dramatizations; and, I still find myself listening to this over and over again. Even when I know who did it, it is still fun to go back and listen for missed clues in these masterful performances. Agatha Christie was the queen of mystery; and, John Moffat brought Poirot to life in a way only he could. I just hope everyone can fall in love with these the way I have.

Standout performances and stories

What a wonderful discovery these were! Both this and the first set of BBC radio dramatisations have been well worth the listen with really great voice performances and sound effects where needed. The stories themselves are well written as you would expect with good twists to keep you engaged. John Moffat really is the perfect Poirot.

this is to all the bad reviews

OKAY
THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER!
I know y’all are like; Oh it’s not a book it’s a radio play.
IT SAYS DRAMATIZATION on the front. That👏🏽means👏🏽a👏🏽play👏🏽like👏🏽thing👏🏽ok?👏🏽
Next time you’re about to download an audible book, look at the covers AND the short little bio.
Also this is amazing
(Has a lil’ profanity and Ina-pro pro talk but
I would recommend it for ages 12/13+)
စဒစ okay bye

Excellent, Witty, Great Cast

I absolutely loved the stories and listening to the full cast - particularly the performance of Hercule Poirot - made it even better. Plus, so many stories in one book! There's one more book like this of Hercule Poirot, but those are the only two. I wish there were more!

Great stories.

Nice acted out mysteries that take you back to that time. It's nice to forget about the present and imagine what it is like to live in that era.
