So beginnt der gleichnamige Hörbuch-Band von Charles Dickens mit spannenden Kurzgeschichten, die zum Träumen und Reisen durch England mit seinen wunderbaren Landschaften einladen.

Charles Dickens, geboren 1812 bei Portsmouth, musste er in seiner Jugend arbeiten, nachdem sein Vater ins Schuldgefängnis gekommen war. Neben seiner Arbeit als Reporter für die Zeitung "Morning Chronicle" fertigte er Skizzen an, die in Buchform unter dem Titel "Pickwick Papes" erschienen und ihn schlagartig zu Ruhm verhalfen. Es folgten parallele Arbeiten an verschiedenen Romanen sowie verschiedene Amerikareisen (1841/42 und1868). 1870 starb Dickens im Alter von nur 58 Jahren an einem Schlaganfall.
