Story
Dakota was a finalist on the Invest in the Best television show, and she could nearly clutch the victory in her grasp. Except, one judge, Mr. West, blocked her way to success with his callous and arrogant "No". After giving him some choice words, everything that Dakota knew as life changed. Years later, she runs into that same judge and cannot believe he has the dirty nerve to speak. Her life had completely shifted since the last time they saw each other, but that did not erase her hatred for the man. No. If anything, it made it worse.

Story
Since aging out of the foster care system and becoming a nurse, all I dreamed of was marrying a nice doctor and moving to a two-story house in the suburbs. So how did a dangerous biker gang criminal end up handcuffed to my bed? And why did I agree to let that animal teach me how to...ahem...do things. Wicked things. In the very same bed he’s been handcuffed to in order to keep me safe? Long story. And I’m truly scared to find out how it will end.

Story
I used to be a sensible, responsible good girl who kept her nose buried in textbooks and worked hard to make her father’s dreams come true. Then Keane happened. He was a crude, rude, ruthless Southie bully who only cared about his hockey career and pucking his way through a string of girls. I hated him and I thought he hated me, but then one unexpected spring break kiss changed everything. Moving across the country to go to med school and eventually marrying Keane’s total opposite seemed like the right things to do at the time.

I said goodbye to my son. But he had one final request - a letter I'll never forget. "Dear Dad, If you're reading this, it means I'm gone. I had one dream, growing old with Holland. Death won't stop me from providing for my wife....Please take care of Holland. Take her back to California with you. It's a lot - I know. But, I'm placing my most precious possession in your hands. Love, Scott." But the thoughts swirling through my mind are certainly not what my late son had in mind. How do I resist this woman in front of me? After all, you can't choose love, it chooses you.

From the time I was a little girl, I knew I was going to follow in my father’s footsteps. The art form of tattooing always intrigued me, and it became my life’s goal to put my work on other people’s bodies. My blank slates as I called them, ready and waiting for me to help the individual express themselves. I’m fully tatted and pierced and I love myself the way I am and will not change that for anyone. I had tried my hand at love once before, but it didn’t turn out very well, so I gave up and concentrated on making my shop successful.

Stable, safe, predictable - all words that aptly describe Professor Nadia Day’s life. An existence she’s carefully crafted for herself despite her unconventional upbringing and what, to her, is an unseemly past. The last thing she would ever do is rock the boat when it comes to her life and livelihood. When retired football player and single dad, Nathan Moore, walks into her psychology classroom, all fine and dreadlocked, he does more than rock her boat - he rocks her world and causes her to question her buttoned-up existence.

Summary
Mr. Vega
I didn't want this woman to be my nanny. She had no experience and a failed art career. What did she know about rearing children? She was my late wife's choice, and I didn't too much care for the woman, and she didn't care for me, either.
Until all hell broke loose and the nanny was the only one my son could turn to. The only one we could rely on. She kept us going, and then she wanted to leave, too. Not a damn chance.
Faith
There could never be anything between me and Mr. Vega. He was the father of the boy in my charge. I was his nanny. Nothing more and nothing less.
The lines needed to be clear between him and me, but a nagging feeling told me he would keep them blurred.
Contains mature themes.

Mr. Vega!!! Oh Yasssss!!!
The heart wants what the heart wants. My heart wants Mr. Vega! Freaking hot! Troy's narration had me feeling heat in all the right places. His voice, my goodness. 🔥🔥🔥This was a mature and sophisticated love story that dealt with finding love in places you would never want to go or find it unimaginable. This story was skillfully written.
Loss of a beloved spouse and mother is a difficult thing, but this Arthur gave a bird's eye view into the struggle through the nanny.
The story was so well written and narrated I was completely captivated and loved every single minute of it. Tons of Pearl's of wisdom dropped, counseling essentiaI, made this such a respectable and responsible story. I laughed and cried and most importantly, if I had a man like Logan Vega, I can easily give up my ass, because he earned it. He was smooth, mature, patient, swooning and a New Yorker thru & thru.
Gosh, Mari did Faith so Epic! Mari is a smooth master narrator and my favorite of all time.
This is a keeper yo and I'm listening to it again. Xyla Turner, you rock!

Like binge watching your favorite drama
I couldn't get enough. I so LOVED this story, and when I say LOVED, I am screaming it! I listened to the story straight through and still I wanted more. This story wasn't at all what I was expecting, which is normally overdone erotica in every chapter. I liked the synopsis of the story but prepared to just fast forward the erotic scenes as I normally do. This read as if I were watching a drama and I had to binge-watch all of the episodes. The development of the characters was well done. I love my alpha males and Logan was the perfect amount of jerk with endearing redeeming qualities who loves hard. Faith was what I expected her to be. Not too weak or whiny and able to see her own faults. I loved that we got to know Gail a bit. I was wondering how that would be written in and it was well done. The physical description of Faith didn't come up until well into the story so I had to imagine what she looked like for a while. No worries, I just made her look the way I wanted her to : ). I was thrown off when her accent suddenly appeared but didn't seem to stay. I know that the narrator wasn't using it but sometimes Faith wasn't either until she got really angry. It just threw me off a bit in the beginning. I love the development of the romance. It's been a long time since I've read/listened to a good romance with just the right amount of build up and movement of the story. Ms. Turner caught me off guard on several occasions and had me laughing out loud (and scaring people because I was wearing in-ear headphones they couldn't see) at the characters' reactions. I am telling you, this story had everything I needed to hear/read. Now, let's talk about the narration. Ms. Mari reminds me of Janina Edwards, who narrates the Jasmine Guillory books and I'm okay with that. However, I have never heard Troy Duran before this, and let me tell you. That man's voice is smoking hot! The baritone he narrates with (whew!) I had some favs that a lot of the romance novelists use regularly as narrators but this man is now #1. I loved how he was able to narrate the ethnic jargon and do Casey's voice. I have over 100 titles in my library and I haven't listed to any of them more than once yet, not that I don't want to, I just always find a new title to start. I am going to listen to this one again before I even start another book. I love it that much. It's like watching my favorite movie over and over. Thank you for this work, Ms. Turner. I don't look forward to your other books in this series because I only want to love these characters and I honestly don't know if I can hear Troy Duran's voice as anyone other than Logan Vega. With that said, I am going to see what else you have right now!

Was rooting for it to be better
This was a nanny book so my expectations were high. I think I agree with some reviews; at times, especially since the hero admitted his own anti-blackness, not as much of a positive to African-American readers. To be clear, I actually am Caribbean. I thought maybe I'd be a little more understanding when I got to the parts very disparaging to AAs.
The author seemed as if she was trying to diversify her heroines, but it was definitely from the perspective of someone who maybe a little anti-Caribbean. Caribbean people are all races but it's safe to say 75-90% are unambiguously Black(and I say this as a Black Cuban woman who is not mixed, mixed presenting or anything other than Black). So framing herself as though she wasn't the same kind of Black, while technically it's not wrong, we do all share the same ancestors, so maybe she could've been more clear and stated the differences and similarities to being Black in both African-American and Trinidadian spaces.
She was always reminding the audience she wasn't AA but you don't always have to say it with words, which is why it made it a little AA-bashing. Foods, mannerisms, cultural norms showcase differences, and those examples were just some of the many more respectful ways she could have handled it instead of making it seem like being Trini was better.
Especially since what really sparked this was a trip to a barber shop for the employer's son's hair. Ironically, it's a Black barbershop, which last time I checked, a lot aren't Trini owned, so unless I missed something, she was wrapped up enough in AA culture to take him to an AA barbershop.
Most non-AA Black folk tend to assimilate subtly or non-subtly to AA culture. If you use AAVE, that's AA culture, if you like rock and roll or country, those are also Black culture. If you didn't want to write a nuanced Caribbean character, maybe the heroine would have been best served as a villain, because it's obvious she wasn't written to be well perceived.
I hate that this is my first read from this author because my expectations were so high. It wont be my last, especially since I like IR and she always comes up, but this book was a little boring, the hero and heroine had no chemistry and it wasn't what I come to expect with the nanny trope. Here's to the next book being better since it's in audio.

Love it!
As always, the easy part. I love Troy Duran and I wish there were more well wrtten books with his narration out there! I also love Mari but she is one of those narrators you either love or hate. I just happen to love her so no complaints from me :)
This is my first listen by Xyla Turner. The cover + summary pushed me to add it to my wishlist. Fast foward a few weeks later and I finally took a chance. This isn't your typical nanny story. This isn't your typical single dad / dead wife story. Turner took these tropes and weaved a very realistic, low drama story that is captivating, funny, sexy and totally worth 1 credit. I love that she chose love first then lust! I love that she touched on real life problems and choices. I love that she wrote an adult book with drama that wasn't centered of some miscommunication btwn the H/h. Believe me there was drama, after all the H/h were opposites in all aspects but somehow even I believed they fit!
I look forward to more.. hopefully Turner will keep spitting out wonderful listens! IMO worth a chance and definately worth my credit

Real… it’s so real in the feels
So insightful! I was so afraid that having mature content that all the character growths would be skimmed over, but the author made it the adventure. It wasn’t distasteful and I was so hooked when I was sure I would lose interest “any paragraph now”.
Side note: I was also amazing to hear a story that I could relate to in an interracial relationship. Down to the shopping experience and cultural discovery. I plan to play the shopping experience for my husband… I know for a fact he will laugh in nostalgia.

I Really Wanted To Like This Book
I tried to like this story. I really did. I read the reviews and thought, finally, a really good book. I even finished it but it had fizzled out really early on. I didn’t like any of the characters very much. Faith was…eh, Mr Vega had a great voice but I couldn’t connect on any level. The kid was 6 but talked like a 12 year old and I HATE that. I just really didn’t care much about any of them. Troy Duran has a really sexy voice and would probably be great reading a good book. Other than that, don’t waste your credit.
