Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job.

The Discworld novels can be enjoyed in any order, but Mort is the first book in the Death series.
The first book in the Discworld series—The Colour of Magic—was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Slightly let down by performance
Pratchett is always fantastic and I thought this would be too. Indira Varma did an excellent job with the witches series but unfortunately Sian Clifford’s performance is a bit thin. She only seems to have 2-3 voices and the delivery/emphasis is a bit off.
Death has lots more lines in Mort (obviously) compared to other books, but the ‘deep and very hoarse’ delivery doesn’t do it for me either.

Please give it to Colin Morgan!
Sorry but I didn't think much of Sian Clifford's narration. At times she seemed to be completely uninterested, and several sentences had the emphasis placed on the wrong word, completely changing heir meaning or spoiling the joke. Death was MOST EXCELLENT though, and of course the story is wonderful, classic TP.

Love the story
Thoroughly enjoyed this one but all of his books have been fab. Would highly recommend Terry Pratchett if you enjoy fantasy with a lot of humour

Very cool introduction to Discworld
Funny and light-hearted whilst still exploring serious themes. Well worth the read, great voice acting.

A Triumph!
This Audiobook is one of the best I have ever, ever heard.
In invites you in Pratchett’s Discworld with beautiful narration and a brilliant score.
Deaths voice was uttermost ghostly and hilarious.
The performances should be rated more than 5 stars and I doubt no one else thinks differently, and Pratchett’s foremost witty, comedic and absolutely flabbergastingly jaw dropping and exiting and adventurous.
Sian Clifford performs the best they ever have. The voice lures you in the story and then drops you in the adventure in a whirlwind of drama, wizardry magic and all the smoothness goes to the most hilarious madness ever written. Laugh out loud funny. Make your head twirl witty. And intensely Adventurous.
Peter serafinowcz gives you the most brilliant facts.
And bill Nighy makes you giggle.
I recommend this to ANYONE.

Perfect
A touch of sadness whenever I read this book, cause we will never see the likes again. Not sure how many times I've read and listened to this book. It's my favourite Discworld from all the way back on release, and with which many book is benchmarked and found wanting.
Sian Clifford didn't seem the right choice at first, what with Mort being male, but it soon fits. Serafinowitz is perfect. "FRAN! FRAN!"
Why do so many people like Discworld? Probably for everything it's the Small Town West Country England kindness. Much needed in this world. It's the optimism to Mr Kings pessimism, that people are kind, giving, and not wholly banally evil.
All this touching on how people hold their destiny and their personality in their own hands.

a wonderful start to discworld.
if your looking for a book to step into the world this is a fantastic choice, characters easley defined, stories never overwhelming but remains very engaging every step of the way.
the world building in this book alone is incredible.

Time for Death
Having finished the Witches series of the new recordings (and loved every minute) then struggled to get used to Andy Serkis in Small Gods, it’s time for the Death series. Never one of my favourites, Mort still remains a decent story and Sian Clifford makes a good start here. I think over the series I’ll come to really enjoy her work, though I’m not sure she’s that good at male voices.
