Summary

The sun went down behind the storm clouds, and stained them with its blood, then the rain fell upon the ship in torrents. Solid sheets of water hammered the wooden decks so hard that the din drowned the men's voices and blotted out their vision.

They leave as brothers. They must return as men.

Famed sailor Hal Courtney is now a man of land and family. But when the King orders him to sail to Madagascar and stop the pirates responsible for looting the finest trading ships of the East India Trading Company and bringing ruin to them all, Hal must travel with his three younger sons on a journey that will shape the young men forever.

In this swashbuckling adventure of marauders and slave traders, love and treasure, the brothers will face duels, chases, betrayals and battles - and see their fates cast in ways they could never have imagined....

A Courtney Series adventure - book two in the Birds of Prey trilogy.

Allah Akbar !!

I so love ❤️ The Courtney adventures....make u laugh ,cry, cringe, weap and shout for joy ....and Sean Barrett is an excellent Narrator .....now onto the next adventure ....I've listened to almost all of the Courtney adventures ..but like Stephen King's Dark Tower Series I read them all higgledy piggelty.....but then went back and read them in order .....I sometimes do that ..but when u start to develop a real relationship with the characters of these books ...they become like your friends..... having an IPFJ personally I find that these relationships are better than the real thing ...or are more real to me than the real thing ....so much healthier ❤️‍🩹......anyway hope u enjoyed my post and be blessed everyone

Another seafaring epic

I am new to Wilbur Smith and was delighted to discover after reading Birds of Prey that it is part of a trilogy. Still a seafaring yarn with plenty of grip and intrigue as we as plenty of blood spilled in quite creative ways.
I feel I have a hole in my life now the book has come to an end. I miss the characters.
Will definitely be clicking for the 3rd book plus any others in between.
Well done Wilbur Smith. You have a new fan.

Fabulously written and narrated.

Wilbur Smith was at the height of his story writing powers here and it was hard to stop listening as the tale moved with such speed and intrigue. Incredibly well researched with minute details that help to convince the listener that they are actually there witnessing it.
Sean Barrett is a master narrator and his ability to give each character a real personality increases the enjoyment of listening to this story and his expression is never dull. Fabulous.

Adventure, Adventure, and MORE Adventure!

There were so many places that Mr Smith (RIP) could have ended this and I would've been completely satisfied. But the wonderful story went on. Packed with the best kind of, Wilbur Smith adventure, and excitement that made so many fans love him. Monsoon is my favorite of The Courtney series so far.
Did I mention adventure? Enjoy...

not a good book but an entertaining one

deeply flawed, one dimensional cliche characters that are razor thin, but still an adventurous page turner that provides a good bit of escape.

Not the best

In this novel there is more soap opera than in the others I have read. Usually Wilbur pulls you along with surprises and twists but in this one I became irritated by the plodding “and now this is going to happen next” plot stages and often jumped forward to miss the predictable and often depressing event’s
