Summary

Gaia was groomed, abused and enslaved – but then she fought back

Gaia Cooper is just 14 years old when she is groomed by a criminal gang and forced to commit organised credit card fraud.

Despite being placed in care – somewhere Gaia should feel safe – she is left even more vulnerable, and is horrifically abused and exploited by the men manipulating her.

Will the authorities save Gaia – or will she have to save herself?

Compelling and well read

This was an interesting and sad story of a young victim of exploitation. In her own words it is a powerful listen and at times very shocking. It brings home the impact of the terrible child exploitation and abuse taking place in cities and towns every day in our country. Sadly it’s not a new story and so I can’t say it was an amazing listen, as someone interested in current social affairs especially where our children are involved and who has sadly heard and come into contact with children who have been exploited I didn’t find the story as riveting as perhaps other listeners have. However for parents and guardians of children growing up in our ever increasing complicated world it’s a great and very honest account by a young child and later young woman, with detailed insight into how easily any child can be groomed today and the red flags to look out for. I think the author
Is incredibly brave to tell her story as honestly as she has. I felt incredibly sad to read about another child who had been let down by her parents and social services and even her school and community .. all the people and services in place to protect our children failed and they could and should have intervened and prevented the dreadful cruelty and abuse she suffered. I won’t spoil anything for those of you yet to listen by commenting on how things pan out.. I recommend you listen to what author has to say. The message to take away is to never think this couldn’t happen to your own child as she explains and always take immediate action if there is any doubt in your mind. Well worth the credit.
